We surely have to try something different on Tuesday, not based on today but our stodgy attacking for a month now and the way they swatted off the false 9 set up three weeks ago.

I'd go the false 9 BMX route again - none of Walters, Diouf or Joselu worth a start for me, with Afellay at the head of a middle three, and MVG to provide some fresh legs to help out Whelan. If Ryan is not fit, anyone but Wilson to partner Wolly. He is a walking disaster area, destined to cause the concession of at least one goal. Butland Johnson Shawcross/Muniesa Wollscheid Pieters Whelan Van Ginkel Afellay Shaqiri Bojan Arnautovic Liverpool are absolutely terrible at defending high balls into the box, this is their key weakness at the moment and something that we will need to exploit, if we're going to have a fighting chance on Tuesday Jez. So back to Crouch and Walters??? hmmmmm...................

I think the secret for Tuesday may be not to go balls out for an early goal potentially leaving ourselves exposed at the back, were we to concede another goal then the game is pretty much up.
If we can get in at 0-0 half time and even with say 70 minutes on the clock they may start to fall back trying to protect what they have and as the tension builds that may be our moment.

I think we've got to get a lot of high balls into the box, Liverpool are absolutely pants in the air at the back this season.
I'd like to see Diouf start in the hole, like he did at Citeh last year.
He'll drop back and work like a Trojan helping out the midfield when we don't have possession but with Joselu leading the line (and who is very good at holding the ball up) he has the pace to stretch their defence when we are in possession, meaning that Liverpool can't double up on Arnie and Shaqiri.
I'd go with
Butland
Johnson Ryan (if fit) Wolly Pieters
Whelan Afellay
Shaqiri Diouf Arnie
Joselu

Butland Johnson Shawcross/Wilson Wolshied Pieters Arnie Affeley Whelan Cameron Shaquiri Crouch I think that's the team I would pick too, if available. Bojan will start though, with him being rested yesterday. We should be focussing on Tuesday's match now though and getting behind the team again because we can go to Anfield and shock a few people. Let it be said. It's not over til' the fat lady sings!

Joselu up front with Bojan behind and Arnie/Shaq in their usual positions and bring Crouchy on at the 60 minute mark, as much as i love him Crouch just hasn't got the legs to run around if we're on the back foot which we likely will be at Anfield

This is a game for wingers and peppering the bastards with crosses all night. Put them on the back foot and use Diouf's pace. I have no problem with Charlie Adam starting, either.

It is no doubt going to be a good game on Tuesday. All the players are one match from Wembley so you can't tell me that players will not be up for it! I select my team on the basis everyone is fit, fingers crossed. That players are picked on merit. The back four of Johnson, Shawcross, Wollshied and Pieters has proved successful but Klopp will certainly have planned around this so I would take a chance tactically and suggest:- Butland in goal and then a back three of Shawcross, Muniesa and Wollshied The tactical change would enable us to counter Liverpool's busy midfield with our midfield of Johnson, Cameron Whelan, Affelay and Pieters. Johnson and Pieters could supply width, quality crosses and push on! Naming two good strikers is the most difficult. We do not really have anyone on standout form! As Liverpool have a serious problem with aerial combat I think we once again have to take a big chance leaving Bojan and Shaqiri on the bench. I would go with Arnautovic and Joselu I suppose the team will illicit negative response but Liverpool will be well prepared for a Stoke side and something different might undo them.

Wilson simply Cannot Play, absolute liability when he is on the pitch, caught out too many times.
Butland
Johnson Shawcross (If not fit, Cameron, if he isn't fit Muniesa) Wollscheid Pieters
Whelan Cameron If Fit (Affelay if not, Affelay if Shawcross isn't fit and Cameron slots into CB etc etc)
Shaqiri Bojan (Affelay if Cameron is fit etc) Arnautovic
Diouf (Bojan if Cameron is fit etc)

I like your thinking Silver. We are effectively two games{wins} from qualifying for European football. Whilst it might not have the same kudos in English circles it's got to be the kind of success that will encourage Arnie, Afellay, Bojan and co. to continue their adventure at Stoke, and encourage more of their like to join in Summer. I keep switching from thinking it isn't really time for too much experimentation, to thinking we should go gung-ho.. Ironically our best results/performances have come when we've had less possession, quick countering from deep. Our weakest area so far this season has been crossing, beating the first man getting attacking headers/height in the box, to expect it to change miraculously on Tuesday, to exploit Liverpool is expecting a bit much, without mixing it up.. If Ryan's not fit I'd go for a funky 3-5-2, looking at combining our best crossers with our best headerers. ------------------Jack------------------- --------Cameron Wollscheid Pieters------- ----Johnson Whelan Afellay Arnautovic---- ----------------Bojan-------------------- -------------Diouf Crouch---------------- Let Pieters concentrate of defending and Johnson on attacking, and 'bomb their chip shop'. Shaq, Joselu off the bench as required.
