Especially in a 3-5-2. I'd sign him just to piss Bayern off! On 4 fronts with that proposal. 1) 3-5-2 is the worst formation in world football 2) Fucking Glenda 3) Wollscheid, the lumbering git would have to play 4) We have no one who can play left wing back Other than that I fucking love it! I thought you would! 3-5-2 is March's ultimate nightmare, too, I would guess.

It served a purpose when people played 2 up front and you wanted a spare man to sweep but now? It's just a fancy hipster formation that "luminaries" ie shite managers like Martinez use to look fancy.

I'm not a massive myself mate and think he's been shite recently, 3 years seem to much but if he does sign let's give him half a chance. It's only a rumour.

I couldn't, it's that ingrained in me to despise him. It is but I haven't been arsed over anyone we've been linked with yet so this is good fun!

I remember when I was dreading Upson signing for us as were many others and he didn't turn out to be a disaster in the end so maybe this could turn out the same way. Hughes has surely got to offload one of Bards or Cameron if this happens.

Upson wasn't you're right but he was back up which made it massively more palatable in the end.
It'd have to be Bardsley, Geoff has just signed a contract that keeps him here until 2018!

Would be a desperate signing if we sign him .Just stinks of use missing out on our preferred targets and taking the cheap option again

I would call this a low risk signing, he knows his way around both the Premier League and the International scene that's is for certain, as for 'cheap' I very much doubt it. Players with over 50 caps for England whose last 2 Clubs were Chelsea and Liverpool will be anything but cheap I would imagine!

Would people really rather have Bardsley/Cameron at RB over Johnson?

If we were to sign him it would offer up a new formation opportunity. 5-3-1-1, with Johnson and Pieters (or even Arnie?) as the wing backs. The thought of Johnson being 25% of our defence is a bit of a concern and I can't see us scrapping our successful formation for the inclusion of a player who played less than 20 league games last season.
A bit like the Al-Habsi rumour, I can't see us signing him and I reckon he'll end up at West Ham.

Surely he'd want more than we'd be willing to offer wages wise, wasn't he on over 100k at Liverpool?

poor in the tackle, cuts in and shoots from ridiculous positions, poor crossing and poor positioning. Would much rather keep Cameron and bardsley

Why, do you know how much he wants to earn? Why ask such an obviously stupid question? First off, it is an opinion...one based on assumptions and fact. There are a few things stacked towards the significant potential that he would desire or maybe even expect a large wage. 1. Played for Chelski, when they were burning money to attract English players. 2. Moved to Portsmouth when they were being plane stupid with money in wages. 3. Moved to Liverpool after a bidding war, in terms of contract on offer, instead of Chelski! 4. He is home grown English, they come at quie a premium. 5. He is on a free and would therefore, not guaranteed as you are quite right I don't know Glen personally, would be wanting a pretty decent contract at the age of 30. This is his last MASSIVE deal, probably. Well, if it was a stupid question it was a stupid statement, assuming he wants a massive amount of money; he may see himself as being rich enough and wants an average footballers PL wage and just play football for the last few years whilst he can, people just don't know. He joined Chelsea when West Ham were relegated He joined Pompey after Chelsea loaned him there for a season, Chelsea sold him for £4m, 2 less than they bought him for He joined Liverpool when Pompey were in financial dire straits and had to sell, he went as part of the payment they owed Liverpool for Crouch. I'm sure he was paid very well but not the money grabbing scenario that you seemed to have him for as there was different circumstances

I think we need a bit of perspective. We're linked with an experienced, solid, international fullback who's had stints with Chelsea and Liverpool and is available on a free... I know some people really aren't a fan of Glen Johnson, I'm impartial on him as a player TBH, however, (and I know some people say statistics mean sweet FA), but just look... If he can recover that form and play games with contributions like this, will you honestly not be happy?... We've wanted a proper right back for years, now we're linked with an ex England international and it's still not good enough. I know the scouting team/management don't get everything right, but they wouldn't want to make a balls up of the RB situation yet again. I'm sure with all of their resources they have available they know where our weak spots are and what they need to do to strengthen... I'm sure someone can and will rip these to pieces but certainly puts a slant on the link... Would get a thumbs up from me

Worrying. The sort of player whose game, traditionally, is all about going forward, based on speed. However, many pundits and fans think he is a bit lacking from a purely defensive perspective. Of course he's getting on a bit now and won't be as fast any more and therefore probably not so good at going forward and even worse at getting back than he was. I can see myself watching any average left winger massacre us while I'm watching on saying 'what the fuck is Johnson doing in the wrong penalty area?'

Surely he'd want more than we'd be willing to offer wages wise, wasn't he on over 100k at Liverpool? Although Byram of Leeds would not be cheap to buy, I'd think that he would work out cheaper than Johnson as he would probably accept a lower wage for his first Prem contract than Johnson would for his last. Make the call to Leeds, Sparky. EDIT: And Byram is a much better defender and also a decent attacker as well.

Not my 1st choice. However he's better than Cameron & Bardsley. Unbelievable how he's getting written off after just a rumour. Par for the course on here mate!

I think Sam Byram would be my ideal choice plus he helps the English quota and fits what we seem to be after more these days in that he's young with potential and sell on value.

I think he was made a bit of a scapegoat at l'pool Really, poor defender better in an attacking role, caught out of position far to often all his career this is not the way forward, disappointed that we are even considering him as an option.
