I'm intending to do this run in February. I haven't done it before and was looking for info on the course and the organisation. Are there many hills? How long is the longest climb? Is the field typically pros or is there a big fun-run element? Can you rock up and pay on the day or do you need to book n advance?
Cheers, TB

Flatish and quick. Organisation usually good with plenty of parking. Can be a bit slow to get away after, but not too bad. Not sure if you can enter on the day. Would think so if places left.

Course is very flat indeed. It attracts a really good field for that reason, looking to set a PB. I used to watch it when I was a kid living in Alsager, as my uncle used to do well. I think it allows a much larger field than it used to then (early 90s) and apparently the start can be a bit 'shovey' as it's on quite a narrow road with lots of parked cars (Pikemere Road if you know Alsager) so if you're going to be finishing in over 35 mins then I'd start towards the back so as not to end up on the floor. You won't be able to pay on the day as it always sells out. I'm doing it this year and hoping to get as close to 30 mins as I can manage. Looking to set a sub 40 10k this year so this should be a good indicator of my chances. EDIT - just checked the website and it's sold out already.

It's sold out according to their facebook page and no entries on the day. I've done it a few times, fast and flat with some top uk runners at the front, and us club runners behind I'm doing the Mad dog 10k at Southport on that day this time

Because it's a fast race and in the NSRRA list it fills out quickly. There are lots of club runners but also lots of slow club runners so don't let the vests put you off. There's a few other races out there worth a go. Air Products Crewe 10K very flat. 27th March Newcastle 10K downhill apart from Blackbank 3rd April
Clayton 10K flatish 18th May
Westbridge 5 mile Stone flat 5th June
If you look on the NSRRA site you'll get a list of all the races for 2016.

Thanks for the help. I am coming over from Sydney for a couple of weeks so unfortunately this is the only one I can do. I know a young lad who is doing it for charity and I was going to run it to give him a bit of support (and for my own exercise). When you say that it's sold out, if I turn up on the day and just run, will it be a problem? Do they have officials trying to rugby tackle me to the side of the road for not having a wrist band on? I'm happy to pay the 15 pounds. Cheers TB

Just read the other responses. Thanks for all your recommendations. I'm not a young fella so I would be starting at the back of the pack if they let me on the road.

I don't think there would be an issue running withy your mate. The race takes place on public roads so I don't think they could stop you. The race is chip timed so you won't be picked up going over the line.

Did you have any luck? I was speaking to someone this morning who's handed his entry back.
Sunny intervals but windy tomorrow.
