Butland - 6 (Aside from that minor lapse in confidence in the first half which nearly resulted in a goal, he was good) Johnson - 6 (Defensively solid. Wasn't too adventurous today) Shawcross - 7 (Solid) Wolly - 7 (Ditto) Pieters - 5 (Aways looks anxious in possession and constantly gave the ball away in the first half.) Whelan - 6 (Made some good interceptions but he was quite anonymous today) Affelay - 9 (Dictated play all game & dominated midfield. Was arguably our best player today. Deserved a goal) Walters - 8 (Was influential in the first half & he scored a great goal in the second half) Arnautovic - 8 (He made lots of mistakes but he had his moments of brilliance) Bojan - 4 (I don't know what has happened to him in the last couple of games but he seemed completely off the pace today. Was walking most of the time, didn't bother tracking back, showed no determination to win second balls & he was our furthest player up the pitch in the first half (even though he wasn't playing as a striker) leaving us 2v3 in midfield. Doesn't deserve a place in the team at the moment. If he starts against Arsenal, I hope he plays up front because unlike Norwich, Arsenal would tear us apart if we played like this against them.) Joselu - 9 (In his last 4 games he has had 1 goal and 2 assists. He was given his chance today & he took it. Scored a superb goal & was brilliant throughout the game)
Odemwingie - 6 Van Ginkel - n/a Crouch - n/a

To give Marko an 8 and Whelan only 6 baffles me. I thought Whelan had a great game. Kept the ball well. Resilient in defence and his passing was superb. Had a lot of the ball in the second half and ran forward with it and played forward balls most of the game.. Arnie I thought was quiet, and never really got a look in and as you say made a lot of mistakes, although it was a superb cross for the goal!

I honestly thought that most of the team had a good outing. Bojan went missing a bit but you can't blame him too much. I thought our best players were Afellay, Joselu, and SJW. Afellay is really proving me wrong. I have to admit I thought it was crazy trying to play him, he didn't look too good at the beginning of the season.
I also think we can see the wear and tear of the holiday schedule, especially on our front 3 of Arny, Bojan, and Shaq. We've been relying on them so heavily they are bound to need a good rest sooner or later.
MOTM: Joselu (by far)
Worst of the Day: Bojan (looked a bit like a lost tired puppy out there today)
Question: Do you risk it and start Bojan Sunday?

Arnautovic was poor, superb cross for the goal but he was poor. Arnie had our only meaningful shot on goal first half. He also played an outstanding through ball for Joselu which should've resulted in a goal (he missed the target). It was his brilliance that created the opener for Walters too. It might not have been his best game but he was far from poor. He was our most creative player on the night.

Is it just me that thinks Pieters has been very poor since he signed his new contract?Hopefully just a blip because prior to this he's been excellent

Arnie wasn't at his best (both wide players had this strange reluctance to actually play out wide) but his assist for the first was genius and he got into good positions.
Should have buried at least one of the two chances Joselu gift-wrapped for him first half.

Wheelan is on a poor run of form too. Sure he'll bounce back though, he always does. Arnie is our main threat and although not one of his better games he still proved to be too much to handle for Norwich. Bojan. He's been carried for a few games now. I'd play him against Arsenal but if he doesn't perform then I'd be giving him a rest/kick up the arse. Shawcross & Wollsheid. Both played really well, but are playing far too many square and backwards balls.

It's crystal clear some Stoke fans haven't a clue about modern day professional football. They must watch the game with their eyes closed.
Let's concentrate on what they have done well instead of constantly picking up on the negatives.

Erik had a mare yesterday, especially first half, but he played himself through it and got better as the game wore on.

Even when he isn't at his very best, he's still a threat and still puts a shift in. That's the sign of a good player.
Ranked 2nd last night on Whoscored.

He avoided the tackle with a brilliant piece of skill didn't he? Did he ? Yep, sort of a little rabona-type thing to get past the man before he whips the cross in.

Butland - 7 (some funny stuff in the first half, one good reaction on the goalline, little tested the rest of the game) Johnson - 6 (Defensively solid, only little offensive power yesterday) Shawcross - 6 (had a relaxed evening) Wolly - 7 (said it yesterday: if the opposing forward has the ball, Woly is like a limpet, good passing to the midfield) Pieters - 6 (Awful in the first half, much better in the second, a marvellous ball from him in the dangerous area but nobody was there) Whelan - 5 (Glenn isn´t in his best shape at the moment) Affelay - 8 (Excellent passing and overview, made his usual horrible misplaced pass in the first half) Walters - 7 (a typical Walters-game, absolutely anonymous first half, made a goal from nowhere, better with continuation of the game) Arnautovic - 8 (made some mistakes, but had a lot of ball contacts and some brilliant moments (Assist, pass to Joselu first half), irreplaceable on the left side) Bojan - 5 (not his day) Joselu - 9 (Man of the Match, excellent technique, world class pass to Arni first half, his goal was very important) Odemwingie - 6Van Ginkel - n/a Crouch - n/a
Hughes - 8
All in all i saw a better game, than many of the negative comments here describe it. Good win against one of those teams we often fail.

Yep, sort of a little rabona-type thing to get past the man before he whips the cross in. Just watched a replay about 10 times and I can't decide whether Arnie used skill to beat the defender or the defender kicked the ball at Arnies trailing foot and it then bounced off into his path.

Things were not really working for Arnie last night, but he deserves credit for keeping going and not giving up or showing frustration, both of which he has done in the past. Consequently, he produced some quality moments. The marks some people have given to Whelan beggar belief. Playing only one defensive midfielder as we did last night puts real pressure on him. I thought he rose to the challenge superbly. He was everywhere and scarcely put a foot wrong. Few Premier League teams have a better player in his position.

The team doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders at the moment. 1st half was awful, as against Liverpool. As many have said, Pieters is not playing well and Bojan, I just don't know what's up with him at the moment. I hope we turn up in top gear against Arsenal on Sunday, or I fear the worst. Afellay, as I've said before is class and Joselu is beginning to show why Hughsie brought him in. I just wish we could play like we did against Citeh more often. That was a joy to behold and hopefully we can get back to that sort of form in the near future. Jon did a good job IMHO last night and is surely worth a start on Sunday. Goooaaarrrrrnnnn Stoke!
