Best one I have ever seen including the 5 hub caps that fall from the car.

The two that come to my mind immediately are The French Connection and The Blues Brothers

Neither are traditional car chases but:-
basic instinct on the California coast road, and the vanishing point - pretty much the entire movie - I can watch these again and again.

Bullitt was the first car chase filmed at real speeds, so it set the bar for everything else that followed, and The French Connection car/train sequence was directly inspired by this, they even hired the same stunt team. (McQueen did some/most of his own stunts in Bullitt as he did in most of his films). With Bullitt, I came for the car chase but have stayed with it due to the effortless King of Cool (dress sense, attitude) plus music and supporting cast. The plot doesnt make much sense but that doesnt matter. Its best to watch Bullitt as you would read a Sunday Times Supplement magazine -dip in and out, take style notes for life. Others car Chase to mention 2) French Connection 3) Robbery 4) C'etait un Rendezvous -short film shot in Paris in real time, real conditions 1976 -whole 8 mins or so can be found on Youtube PS Bullit has Jaqueline Bisset
