You think he'd get the same level of stick if Shawcross hadn't been ignored? Behave. England would probably be less like a colander defensively if Shawcross had been at the back, so no.

So if the next England manager doesn't pick Stoke players, we presumably won't call him every name under the sun if the team performs better than it is now?

With a 100% record at qualification (literally couldn't win more games) just feel the confidence.

He's been a thoroughly average England boss. Not great, not abysmal. Middling. If it wasn't for the Shawcross thing he wouldn't get one iota of the abuse he gets on here. He oversaw England's worst EVER performance in a World Cup Finals. To me that is abysmal and he shouldn't be in the job. Just because he is better than other very poor national bosses doesn't mean he should be England manager. How confident are you that he will go into another championships and pick the right side and employ the correct tactics? Nobody, given his record, could say they would be. Time for the next cab on the rank, whether that's Neville, Southgate, Pardew or some johnny foreigner. Personally I think we were worse in 2010. Granted we didn't get out of the group in 2014, but narrow defeats to two of the top 10 in the world wasn't exactly a surprise, and we did have some decent spells with the ball (though I doubt many on here will remember this). Whereas our shambolic performance against Algeria ranks as one of the worst England performances I've ever seen. This after a draw against a workmanlike USA team and then scraping a 1-0 against the lowest ranked European team at the competition. I'd also say the performances of Hodgson's England team at the Euro 2012 compares favourably with many previous Euro tournaments, qualifying unbeaten from a tough group, only going out on penalties to Italy. I'm with Chiefdelilah on this, Hodgson may not be great but he's far from being our worst ever manager.

Even if he won the bloody thing they should still sack him.
Don't give a shit about the Shawcross thing either, it's his opinion, he clearly doesn't rate him, that's life.
It's the dull, turgid, limp football that does it for me. We're just workmanlike. I hate it. And then when it matters he plays for draws ie penalties, absolutely useless.

So if we want Hodgson gone, England need to flop ? I don't care either way tbh. But it would be fucking hilarious if Ryan played for Wales (which is just as unlikely while Ramsey is in the team) and helped dump hopeless Hodgson on his arse.
