This is what I chop my lobby veg to, on a Sunday morning. I like having a fit bird singing to me, and I don't have to make an effort to understand what on earth, she's going on about...

The simplest uncomplicated of lobbies for me. Lamb leg steaks chopped, carrots, onions, pearl barley. Bay leaf, salt & pepper. No Worcester sauce or owt fancy. Had one served with pickled red cabbage last week, not for me. Jacket taters or bread.
Got one on the stove, perfect now winter seems to have arrived.
Like Shakiri too.

Oh dear, this thread was going fine until you mentioned lamb and pearl barley...
Mrs RBO Lobby; Beef shin Onion Parsnip Potato Carrot Swede Beef stock Seasoning
The wife puts too much pepper in it for me, I've told her on numerous occasions, but she carries on regardless. She also adds water to it via a nearly empty bottle of ketchup. Can't fault her resourcefulness.

Red cabbage is fer 'ot pot Not fer mine it ain't. Pickled red cabbage only works with bacon and cheese for me. Last time I had Scouse {in W. Kirkby} there was the option of red cabbage. Declined then, and I wunna bother again. I'm lead to believe that the South Wales variety {'Cole'?} is green cabbage laden.. I concede I was a bit lamb-focused in me original post. I'll accept skirt and shin beef too, but the minimalist approach stands. Too much vegetable variation and you're wandering into casserole territory and may as well have done and stick some red vino in it.

I like the way the pickle vinegar cuts through a succulently unctuous 'ot pot. They put all sorts in a Welsh caul nowadays, even bacon(!) I'm led to believe. My ex was from the Rhondda and it was lamb and leeks back then.
I think you have a point with the less is more approach generally. A vegetable curry with more than 3 main ingredients is a waste of time for me.

They are for stew 'n' dumplings, boiled beef and carrots etc. Chunky bread with lobby. No butter for me though. My waistline won't allow nowadays.
