Brilliant news. Absolute beast of a player who just seems to get better and better. Now let's get Arnie wrapped up on a five year deal and send a signal that our top performers are going nowhere.

Great news he has really brought something extra to the club, part of the best back four we have had in the premier league. Proper fullback who seems to enjoy all aspects of the game, really gets stuck in when needed in defence and is always there in attack to support and receive the ball always overlapping. Love the guys attitude, not the most skill full in attack but is definitely improving, love the shot today, shows his confidence is improving.

Unusual for us to give anyone contracts for this length of time, we must be feeling we are in the PL to stay.

Something new about Erik cropped up in the Telegraph match report: apparently LVG (as Holland coach) criticised him for 'lacking ambition' when he left PSV for Stoke. Erik got the last laugh today and reportedly put an imaginary pistol to his head as he walked off past LVG at the end of the game. Anyone notice that? No but if true brilliant!

Arnie's contract extension has got tears written all over it.
Expect the worst, that way if he signs it, it's even better.
At the moment though I just can't see why he would.

He's scored winners vs man city and chelsea, and scored yesterday also, clubs will be looking at him definitely and of he wants champions league football i can see him going, however he does seem to love it here.
Afellay also as 18 months left, he'll be 31 by the end of that, maybe a 12 month extension to 2018 would be sensible.

His comments in the press. He clearly wants to be playing the Champions League again. Will someone of that calibre come in for him? He'll be playing a waiting game, all the cards are in his hand. We've got to offer him a fantastic contract and hope no bids come in.

I just hope the extra revenue we're looking at next season will give us the opportunity to give him a new contract. That said great news about Eric signing a new one. I'll be interested to know when Affelay signed his 2 year contract whether we have the option for a third. If not we need to extend his and rapid.

There was something I read last week about the legal moves to get rid of transfer fees and one observation that most of the fees are between the top teams - so Utd, Barcelona, Real, City, etc pay 30 -40 million for average players and they don't care as it's cash moving around. These clubs can always pay mega-bucks for players whether they are under contract or not.
If Marko wants to go to a top club - and not just a Sevilla - then letting his contract run out makes no difference. He's taking a risk of getting injured and ending his career in 18 months. Pieters has secured his grand children's financial security so can relax and play. If a top club really needs a left back then the 20m is a small price to pay. Same with Marko. His advisors should be getting him a good long deal with us, continue playing well and if he's good enough and consistent enough then he'll get a move to a Champions League quarter final club - and I'll wish him well

He's not at a top club and someone like Spurs/Sevilla etc are more likely to want someone who will be in and out of their side for cheaper.

Arnie's getting WAAAAY too much smoke blown up his backside in the media over the last 2-3 weeks for my liking.
Team Arnie will definitely be hopeful a sexier club will make something happen over the summer!

Arnie's a confidence player. Right now, and rightly so, his is sky high. Having played for a big club before, Inter, I fear he may have a few bad games and lose it all. Italian and Spanish managers tend not to give the kind of grace that managers in the Premier League give to enigmas like Arnie. Could he be another N'Zonzi if he moved to CL club.

Arnie is fully deserving of an improved and extended contact. I'm sure several clubs will be watching what happens

I don't blame him for having ambition, I'd be more worried if he didn't have any. But ask the question, is it an ambition to just play in the Champions League or to win it. If it's the latter could you see the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich knocking on our door. Me personally I'd be looking at what is being built around me and think about the chances of European football in a team that is going places. From there you can make a better call on whether you could make the step up.

I can see him holding out until the summer, imperative we get Europe one way or another.
One thing that goes unnoticed for a long time with Arnie is his incredible work rate! And hope people can still call him lazy is beyond me.
Currently my favourite player along side Butland.

I may be a bit naive here but this current crop of players seem to love it here and are appreciative of hughes for giving them the opportunity to show there talents off on the big stage. I know loyalty is rare in football but I genuinely think these players will repay hughes faith. 4 year deal imminent!!!

A Barca might not come knocking now but if he goes to a an Arsenal or even a Liverpool or Spurs and showcases his talents regularly at that level then he'll appeal regularly to the next tier of clubs. Like it or not we're a stepping stone.

Obviously the more successful we become the more our players are going to be in demand.
I think we're going have to get used to the disappointment of losing players, it's how we replace them, that's the key.

I think we're going have to get used to the disappointment of losing players, it's how we replace them, that's the key. The TV deal next year means we will not need the money from player sales and can match almost anyone on wages. The only reasons to sell are if they are not needed or if they want to go, if we can get in to Europe (and we can) then we should be able to hold on to all our players except possibly Butland.

Shaqiri was making noises re recommending the club to others, as he seems to be settled here.
More reasons for Arnie to want to stay?
