I'm 67 disabled been going for 49 years, know the bloke on the door (main entrance) still got searched, which i didn't mind, had to open flask for him to check contents before he let me in then the woman at the desk said i would have to leave the flask there and collect it after the match. When I said i'd rang the stoke office to ask if I could bring a flask and was told they didn't know. I said I am diabetic and need a drink I was told I could buy drinks there i said not at £2 .40 for a bottle of water I can't, they then checked with the bloke who searched me and said I could take it in. What a load of crap. Loads around me took out flasks etc at half time, perhaps you were unlucky?

Spot on. Edmund Burke said words to the effect "All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" and it is as true now as it was when he said it. I like Edmund Burke, also said something along the lines of "The person that wrestles with us strengthens our nerves and makes increases our skill. Our antagonist is our helper" I had it on a poster once, just can't remember off the top of my head exactly how it went. I guess my point is, unless you go full cavity things will get through and where do we stop? Search people before they go in the club shop? I get on a pub bus with 70 or more (2 buses). That's a big enough target, do we search everyone before they get on the bus? What about the pubs in town before the game? I do agree that a game like Boxing day for us could trigger thoughts but unless everyone has an airport search I can't see it being of benefit. You'll find lots of bottles of pop and hip flasks but a terrorist will be a bit more prepared than a kid with pop. Well, I was just reflecting on the match only since none of the other things are SCFC responsibility. (Shop aside). The thing is realistically we can't check everyone and everything, everywhere so we should all just remain vigilant for anything out of the ordinary. Otherwise go about our day normally, which is why I said before; to take with a pinch of salt. I agree with you in that it will be little benefit but admittedly i'm not too clued up on how much space would be required for a terrorist to conceal a bomb! My point mainly was that the searches shouldn't cause too much uproar because they aren't too far off what we have already had for years on thick coats and bags? It sounds like very little has changed, the club has just issued a statement they thought would be both re-assuring to any concerned fans and a standard step in prevention.

I could have been carrying a thermonuclear weapon and no-one would have had a clue. Especially me cos I don't know what one looks like. I'm not convinced, don't think you'd have fit through the door

It was pretty farcical.
They either should do it right or not at all.
There was a massive queue. One bloke doing it and it was just a pat down. Pretty pointless.

I saw the massive queues at a couple of turnstiles at the back of the Novus (the first ones you come to after the subway) so I walked a bit further down and went straight in no queue and no search. As you say farcical but not unexpected.

My wife and I arrived at our usual time about an hour before KO, went to go through our normal gate (Boothern No18) and a female patted down my wife and a guy asked me to open my coat and then patted me down. Not a problem for us both, however I did ask him if he wanted to look into the small bag I was carrying (he had forgotten!) and nothing was said to my wife about the flask she was holding. We bought the flask after we have been to the Brit for the Rochdale game (1997) as it was soooooo f in cold and used it ever since.
