I usually travel up on the Friday, go see Mum in her care home and stay overnight in a hotel. And so I have to go to the match with my overnight bag cos I travel back on the next train after the game.
I phoned Stoke to ask about my luggage and was told I could take a bag the size of a small rucksack.
I can't take much less than I do. Wonder how I'll get on getting in to the Manc Citeh and Palarse games with my bag. The hotel's booked already.
Still, I did talk my way into the Paralympics without a ticket, using my natural charm. Think I'll got for the happy chappie direct approach.

Leave my bag in someone's car. Good idea. Will ask some folks I usually see at the match at half time. They travel up in a car.

At Crystal Palace they had a sort of left luggage 'hut' where you left your baggage and picked it up after the game, my lad made use of it last season, he'd just returned from travelling and met me there, might have summat similar at Stoke? Not heard of anything mind.

They stewards used those hand scanners at Southampton and yet some muppet still managed to get a flare into the stadium! I should add, I have absolutely no problem with the club imposing extra security

Are you fucking serious?! OS. DEADLY! Agreed I really can't see the Brit next on the list. New York, London, Madrid, Paris, stoke????? (I know I've missed lots out, especially Africa). A little pointer, the only place my phone didn't auto correct with a capital was stoke. I take my boy to stoke and I'd kill any Cnut that looked at him the wrong way but I'm not bothered about added security and I don't think he is. I've raised him better than that. Some things are more important than irrational fear! Peace, love and unity x

Some things are more important than irrational fear! Peace, love and unity x Whilst I agree that Stoke probably isnt a main target for them, a live football game would still be a chance to wreak havoc. Yes I agree that they would do more outside a stadium but if you think about it, during the match when the cameras are rolling and potentially millions of people watching, not to mention the mass panic i'm sure it would start with people heading to the exits for safety and god forbid they have another one waiting outside. Its scary the possibilities, especially as doing it to a smaller random place like us would create more fear because it's a pointless target so the confusion it would cause would be huge. That being said, i think it should be taken with a pinch of salt as there's probably a similar chance of getting hit by a bus but that shouldn't stop you from leaving the house!!! A little extra security at match days isn't going to be that drastic. People seem to be getting really offended but realistically it will still be the same checks on people with bags and large overcoats... hardly a strip and cavity search! As a note; your phone didnt autocorrect a capital onto Stoke as it will have misinterpreted it for the other stokes i.e. stoke a fire/i'm really stoked etc

Edmund Burke said words to the effect "All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" and it is as true now as it was when he said it. The chances of a particular stadium or sports event being an IS target are low but they are increased if a stadium or event does not up its security measures. That's not giving in to terrorism - giving in would be if we cancelled all sporting events or stopped going on holiday or avoided big gatherings. What happened to the Russian airliner the other week shows what can happen if security is lax. Increased security is a pain - but it is the best chance we have of being able to continue doing the things we want to do with our leisure time, be it holidays, sports events or live events in theatres etc.

Too much pop lost night but I guess my point is, unless you go full cavity things will get through and where do we stop? Search people before they go in the club shop? I get on a pub bus with 70 or more (2 buses). That's a big enough target, do we search everyone before they get on the bus? What about the pubs in town before the game? I do agree that a game like Boxing day for us could trigger thoughts but unless everyone has an airport search I can't see it being of benefit. You'll find lots of bottles of pop and hip flasks but a terrorist will be a bit more prepared than a kid with pop.

I emailed the club's Supporters email addres and this is the official response. May help so that people don't get stopped/have to return to their car with stuff next Tuesday.
"Your rucksack and items such as tickets, gloves and scarves will be allowed into the ground.
The Safety Officer does not advise that you bring a flask. Unfortunately, the current environment means we have to be especially vigilant with liquids entering the stadium, but of course, we will have a full range of hot and cold drinks available to buy inside. Tap water will be provided free of charge". - I've suggested to them that this detail is added to the website and put on social media to make everyone's life easier on Tuesday and going forward.
I anticipated the crackdown on liquids - it's inevitable and sensible - although it doesn't stop it being a pain in the arse; I hate the scrum that ensues before/during half time at the refreshment kiosks and the fact you have to miss bits of the game if you don't want to get stuck in said scrum. Buy shares in the catering company by the way.
Hopefully when the country comes down from "DEFCON 1", restrictions will be relaxed.

Have any other clubs issued similar statements? Just watched BBC Look North and Sunderland are advising that extra security will be in force for their game against us tomorrow. I'd imagine most Premier League games will be similar - and probably Football League games as well.

Looks like women and the disabled can't be terrorist's then.

Will Waggys quiche and flask get through?. I don’t know if it was Waggy and Trevor, but I spoke to a couple of gentlemen at half time who had indeed managed to smuggle a snifter or two into the ground even though they had been searched and may I thank both of you, whoever you are for the advice.

Im not happy, Tony Scholes is having an email. I had to empty my contents of my greenwoods large carrier bag, blanket, woolly gloves, 2 scotch eggs wrapped in tin foil, flask with 2 mugs, swiss army knife and a candle. Blanket allowed in, woolly gloves allowed in , scotch eggs unwrapped and touched - put in bin i said im not eating those now, swiss army knife confiscated, candle confiscated and flask opened and smelt allowed in but he had to have a taste and i offered his friend some which they both agreed mother makes a good bovril anyway what I'm trying to say is it took me 10 minutes to enter the ground. 10 minutes. Trevor got searched twice , he was smiling so he mustn't have been aggrieved. Tony if your reading this , is a candle not allowed in the stadia , I debated this with Trevor until Alf infront told me to shut up about a candle and why would you bring one to a football match.

I'm 67 disabled been going for 49 years, know the bloke on the door (main entrance) still got searched, which i didn't mind, had to open flask for him to check contents before he let me in then the woman at the desk said i would have to leave the flask there and collect it after the match. When I said i'd rang the stoke office to ask if I could bring a flask and was told they didn't know. I said I am diabetic and need a drink I was told I could buy drinks there i said not at £2 .40 for a bottle of water I can't, they then checked with the bloke who searched me and said I could take it in. What a load of crap.

On turnstiles 28 and 29 in the Novus the queues were mahoosive and they appeared to be searching everyone. I went to the next set about 30 or 31 walked straight up to the turnstile, no steward in sight and got straight in carrying a bag and wearing the biggest parka you've ever seen. I could have been carrying a thermonuclear weapon and no-one would have had a clue. Especially me cos I don't know what one looks like. If they're going to do it at all and piss some people off in the process they ought to do it properly.
