What a job they've done to the old place, I barely recognised it. Looks much bigger than before and you can't smell the bogs now. Plus Smiths Gold and Fosters are 1.99 and Hobgoblin Gold 2.05 Gray's Corner loks a treat now as well, with craft ales and ciders on. Don't usually drink in that part of Stoke on matchdays but will have to change our route now I think.

Went in the Liquor Vaults yesterday and fair dos they have smartened it up but didn't stop as frankly didn't see any decent ale. The Bull and Bush on the other hand plenty of decent stuff as well as a good old pint of Bass. Globe still my favourite but it can be a bastard getting served pre game.

There was a huge venue with a stage etc. Fantastic space for gigs and such. I don't actually think it was the bogs so much that caused the stench. There used to be an open storm drain/sewer that ran under the pub, from the top of Penkhull. There was access through a hatch in the raised part of the pub on the left as you went in. It reeked horrifically especially after a rainstorm. I've chased rats around the bar on a few occasions in the past. Brilliant building with loads of history but in dire need of an update, good to see. Staff of Life - Liquor Vaults - Bull & Bush - White Star - Glebe - shuttle, will make a good matchday route.

Didn't spot anything regards the upstairs mate- just that they've made the back seem a lot bigger with loads of seating, looks like they might do food. On a related note, the owners of the Bridge Street Ale House in Newcastle are opening a similar venture in Stoke, near where Woolies was I think.
