Apologies if it's not the best quality, but I took a look at our opening 11 games compared to our other PL seasons. Turns out it's just a fairly average start so far. Nothing disastrous, nothing incredible.

The difference, I suggest, is that TP got most of his points in the first half of the season whereas LMH gets more in the 2nd half.

It's the future No. The future is points on the board. Which we seem to be gathering at a normal, predicable pace. Hence the whole topic of the thread.

I don't really quite see the significance of comparing the first 11 games with the first 11 games of other seasons apart from it being great fun.
I mean why not compare them to the middle 11 games or the last 11 games, or every other game, or the games against the same opposition, or teams who play in blue, I mean they are just 11 games against some opposition at the end of the day. There is nothing magical about the first, last middle or every other game that I can see.
We have 11 games played and a set of results to consider. If you want to consider anything then you might want to look at the actual games we have played in more detail, say we've played 5 at home and 6 away, but only one against a Champions League team, however we have played all 3 promoted sides etc.

He's just putting his maximum doom spin on it. It's been widely written on here that the first 10 games are important to our overall season. This op just proves that it's nothing spectacular nor disastrous. Just what we are, a mid-table premier league football team.

For those is who have not signed up the idea that, while it has happened in recent seasons, it is not written in the stars that we always get better in the 2nd half of the season.

There's drama every season about doom and gloom, but think it's just more disappointing for some this time around because expectations were higher

More worrying thing is how crap we are at home. To keep your supporters onside you need to be doing well in front of them. Majority of people don't go to away games. A win on Saturday would be a big help.

I think we need an extra column in that table. Transfer net spend. It might make for interesting reading.

Wouldn't it be nice to start like West Ham or Leicester for once. Regardless of context this season still looks iffy, particularly if you introduce a column for fan expectations.

We're not even 10 points off 3rd mate.yes it would be nice to have a flyer at the start but the point of the op is to demonstrate that even if you don't there's no real need to start wrist slashing, especially when we've only lost 1 of our last 5 games and not conceded an away goal in over 6 hours.we're hardly in freefall because of our lack of a flyer are we???

The stats tell me that in our last 6 games we've accumulated more points than in any of the previous corresponding last 6 games referred to in the table above.

What goes up must come down. I'd rather gradually get better throughout the season than go out all guns blazing then not win a game after New Year.

We all would, but I don't think it's unreasonable to hope for a good start to the season once in a while, we must be due one cracking start to the season over the course of 10 years.
