Absolute joke no reply of affelay's goal. Just that Sheffield Wednesday were unlucky. Wtf!!!! We are the Premier League side...we won.....no story. The other "bigger" sides won by either a bigger margin or away from home where there was a potential for a greater upset. So, without a doubt, unless you are Stoke our result/ performance was of lesser interest to Channel 5 ( named after the number of its viewers). The unlucky Sheffield Wednesday angle comes from the fact that they caused interest by beating Arsenal, but caused a lack of interest by not turning up against us. Let's be honest, the non-story makes me happy and if we cause a non-story and win in the semi -final no one will be happier than me that our team are anonymous to anyone but us.

About half the texts my lad sent to me to keep me updated were ones telling me how shit Walters was playing. Amazing how Walters is still one of the scapegoats despite being steady in a game we won comfortably. Not the best night for Jon but jeeze, how to suck the life out of a good night for our football club Not a matter of scapegoat, he was just awful......again! & weve got to put with an other 2.5 years of this! we should let him rest and just focus on his Euros.

To be fair that's true we ourselves are know the "Sheffield Wednesday" of the semi final the underdogs etc. A position that in the past has suited us well and a position that we are used to and like. Especially under the guidance of the great capped one.

Unfortunately, Hughes seems to be falling into the Pulis habit of playing SJW no matter what! Walters has been truly awful the last few games, and has brought very little to the team. A player of his experience, should not be constantly caught offside. It seems he just might be getting complacent after his contract extension. Affellai to definitely start on Saturday, MOTM for me.

Considering Walters has offered nothing except being offside we've almost won with 10 About half the texts my lad sent to me to keep me updated were ones telling me how shit Walters was playing. Same here with my lad 'walters offside again' was a constant text. I was out on a xmas do in stevenage with a bloke who knows sjw, lives on the wirral and played in same youth teams as him, showed him the texts, he said he isnt the quickest learner

Should read Affelay. Just a further observation, we need to build far quicker if we MUST do this incessant boring passing from the back. Just before half time, I counted a phase of 12 passes and I don't think the ball passed the half way line! Possession is good, but only if we make the most of it...and preferably in their half!

A few of them posted on here pre match, and were all good posts, all positive, and all confident.
I'd be interested to see their take on the game, from what I have seen and read, sadly no TV here , just highlights, you simply did not turn up, and appeared to field a weak squad.
Surely a semi final would really boost your season, get crowds in, get confidence up.
But that didn't seem to be high on the agenda last night.
Either way, good luck in the Championship , and lets hope we see you next year back in the Prem...

This, we are so slow in our build up at times, it is painful to watch. Watching my team play 12 passes across the back four is not my idea of good football. We really need an injection of pace in (a) The Nzonzi role and (b) on one of the wings/forwards (even if as only back-up for Arnie and Shaq)

From www.owlstalk.co.uk/"We are a Championship side in transition, they are a good Prem side." "Disappointing result. We are much better than this. We needed to be at our best even to be in with a shout. Unfortunately, we never really got going. Bannan and Forestieri we missed them big time." "Well done Wednesday. Stoke were professional, solid and strong, their top flight pedigree and class showed. No shame in our performance, effort and in getting to the QF's the hard way. A memorable Cup run and it's been a good season, the future is still bright and let's hope we'll be facing the likes of Arsenal and Stoke more regularly in the future. Proud of the fans and the team. Onwards and upwards, pick yourselves up lads and let's concentrate on the League now."

He was shit and got constantly caught offside! Just perhaps the ball was to slow coming through. But hey it's another post about how Walters isn't good enough but Leslie chooses him as Captain for the night. ???? Completely agree about the nature of slow balls forward; we're holding on to the ball for too long. The number of offside positions we get caught in is ridiculous. Some of that is from players being too slow in coming back too (Pieters and Arnie being particularly guilty).

Thought the bounce song was great, unlike our attempt to copy it which was totally embarrassing and quite rightly got a "what the fucking hell was that".
I thought there was way more than tickets sold in the South stand. Every isle was pretty much full.

Van ginkel was my man of the match. Affelay was excellent first half yet tired a bit in the second.

They can be proud of their cup run. They did tremendously well to beat Arsenal and get to the QF with us. I think we just had too much for them, much too much and the void between the Prem & Championship was evdent. They never truly threatened us and I never really feared a shock was on the cards during the game, despite expecting a stronger performance from them beforehand. But still, they are a credit to the Championship.

They were utterly dreadful and there was no sign of the quick, incisive football they've played at times in the Championship. They made loads of changes and never troubled us. Their fans were magnificent and deserved better.

No complaints We were nowhere near good enough Very disappointing performance I said in a post on here a few weeks ago that this would be a much harder game than Arsenal Stoke would not turn up with the same complacent attitude So it panned out I was surprised at how little Wednesday produced I don't know whether they were not up for it or not up to it Seems it was the latter, very quiet journey home Anyway Good luck in the competition lads Hope you go on and win it Hope to see you soon

Yep. Add Cameron to that who was very much in the conversation for motm and Wollscheid who was very much the leader of the central defensive partnership and won everything.

Afellay was excellent and has to be for a chance now. Joselu as well.
Hmm MVG, he was superb but having seen him struggle for a number of games in the Prem, did he simply find his level last night?

Morning Stokies,
First of all, congratulations absolutely thoroughly deserved your win.
In terms of the game, I thought it was men against boys, the one thing we have done all season is press the opposition affording them as little time to settle and in my opinion this is the something every lower league team needs to superior opposition. Tonight we looked very poor all over the park. At the back we seemed to panic and we certainly missed the creativity of Forestieri and the energy of Bannan. Hooper looks well off the pace up front and I think your defence simply ‘dealt’ with any threat carried by Joao.
You will see from my previous posts that I travel to most games home (given) and away but last night was on a par with the performance at Charlton which I kindly put down to tiredness but having only played two games after the international break I can’t blame that on last night. We didn’t expect to win, I knew you guys would be a totally different proposition to Newcastle and Arsenal, given the stage of the competition and relative priorities, but what I did expect was for the lads to leave nothing on the pitch, give it 100%, close down, press high up the pitch, defend from the front and try and make the most of any chance that comes as a result of that, we didn’t.
So, I don’t think based on that performance that any team will have had an easier more comfortable ride into the semi-finals of any cup competition than last night, but you can only beat what’s in front of you and as I have said without a doubt Stoke 110% deserved the result.
Atmosphere, thought the whole place was flat if I am totally honest, our backing is usually a lot better than that but as a group of fans you kind of know the way your team is playing and it just didn’t spark us into any realistic hope and therefore resultant backing. I have to say (don’t get too upset) I thought your vocal support was even worse, even at 2-0 it was dead and I have to confess I am surprised, but I am sure you like us are better away than at home.
A couple of additional items, we got put in a pub about 8 miles from the ground it was a Holiday Inn (or Premier Inn) with a pub next to it, the police escort was a joke made us wait there for 20 minutes before KO and then we just got shafted in traffic, ended up bailing out of the minibus on the duel-carriageway and climbing a banking up to path that went under and underpass of some sorts, this was a nightmare because somewhere along there my ticket dropped out of my pocket, anyway all other lads had gone in so what else could I do but retrace my steps…. And there it was laying on the path being trodden on by people ha ha anyway (this made me feel it was my night, it wasnt). Walking back with ticket safely tucked away just as you get to the corner that is facing you (sure you guys know where I mean) a fight broke out, I am pretty sure these where Wednesday fans having a go (did anyone else see what sparked this), surprised me to be honest, I had a last smoke and went in, the rest is history.
Anyway, good luck my new found Stokie friends, I wish you all the best for the season (unless we meet again in FA Cup) and look forward to seeing you lift the cup….
Up The Owls!
Tony

Instead of Adam? It's a tough one - if anyone else starts in that role you'd think it'd be Afellay. Think I might be inclined to keep Charlie in for now. Geoff's surely front of the queue if anything happens to Whelan though.
