Only fair to say that last night made up for Saturday's horror show, and rather than being sat here with a face like a smacked arse, I'm absolutely buzzing this morning!
First of all, Jack Butland: what a fucking keeper this lad is. At 22 he is only going to get a lot better as well. What have we got on our hands here? The future England number one without doubt. Possibly the best goalkeeper we've had on our books since the great Gordon Banks. As good as Begovic was for us, was there anyone in the home crowd last night who wouldn't have backed our current keeper to outshine the big Bosnian in the shootout? I'd go as far to say that Butland is already the better all-round goalkeeper out of the two of them.
Next, I just want to mention the bottle, battling qualities, call it what you will. Marc Wilson showed bollocks the size of Halloween pumpkins to step up and take his penalty after the mauling he had on Saturday, and both Mame Diouf and Ryan Shawcross, the pair of them running on empty after 70-odd minutes, found reserves of energy and willpower that few players ever have to dig into. Amazing stuff from the pair of them. Arnie was another who was constantly chasing after the ball, refusing to allow any Chelsea player to get the better of him, and still terrorizing Kurt Zouma during extra-time when he threatened to maraud his way through the entire defence on at least a couple of occasions.
Yep, last night was brilliant. One of those nights that had everything and will live long in the memory. Fingers crossed for a favorable draw in the next round!

All of this + 1 addition SJW showed everyone just why he is such a great asset for our club. Ran his nads off, scored a wonderful goal and even had time to take the piss out of one of Chelsea's 'injured' players. Prima donna he certainly isn't, 100% model professional, absolutely!

Even from a distance in the USA and listening to the commentary you could tell it was one of those special nights at the Brit. Its hard to better cup games against big clubs under floodlights at home. And yet there were many on here prior to the game suggesting fielding shite lineups citing the old cliché that the next league game is more important....is it bollox the whole club will get a huge lift from last night and will live long in the memory. A routine premier league game against Newcastle irrespective of the result will be forgotten after a few weeks. No doubt we will get the same reaction on here before the next round suggesting we rest players as the league is more important....it really pisses me off.

Firstly can I say unequivocally that I like Jack Butland , I agree he has the potential to be a top keeper and I'd like him to be at Stoke for a long time to come. However we do need to keep a lid on the Jizz Fest. Only last week at Swansea he got luck twice. Firstly with the fuck up that had him scrambling studs up to rectify that could just as easily have turned into the kind of event that Wilson got pilloried for last Saturday and secondly with his legs apart for Shelvey's shot. Furthermore his passing out against Watford for the most part was shite. He'll hopefully improve as he season(s) progress - but he's got a bit to go before we start mentioning him in the same breath as Banks - and I din't think its fair to the lad to even suggest as much so early in his career.

We need to ensure that Jack always has several years left on his contract.
It is inevitable that the big clubs will come sniffing around for Jack whenever the transfer window is open. We must make sure we can demand his full value from any potential bidders and therefore avoid a repetition of the derisory sums we were forced into selling our top players for last summer.

It looks like Chelsea may have picked the wrong keeper. Could be their very own Victor Moses/Tom Soares moment!

Absolutely stunning again, that save from Sissoko second half was world class, how many games has he kept us in now this season? Much better than Bego and will only get better. Goal scoring is still a massive problem for us though.

Stoke keeping their tradition of somehow managing to constantly sign top quality goalkeepers. Butland has again earned us u point, that's his job though and he's come up with the goods. Stoke maintaining a solid start to the season.
