Did we have an effort on target today?
I'm struggling to remember a home game with no shot on target in nearly 40 years of watching us.

One shot on target (Shaqiri). At home. Criminal.

The Liverpool game at home was the same as today according to the BBC stats, also only 1 effort on target.
Just 2 efforts on target at Swansea earlier this week and 1 of them was Bojan's penalty.
It beggars belief how little we create from open play.

Yes indeed, I suppose since you mention it, if you think our open play is poor then you ought to see our set plays

Our set pieces seen like an opportunity to concede on the counter attack at the moment....we might as well just kick corners one yard backwards and give them a throw in

I cannot remember any shots on target, the only thing that Gomez got troubled with was a Shaqiri corner. Do Wilson and Wolli take the blame for shot on target, Or did they take the midweek training for shooting. Gomez had the least to do for a goalkeeper in the PL that I can remember.

Too much tippy tappy and certain individuals hold onto the ball far too long. I was listening to Mike Pejics comments after the game and he was absolutely spot on. Too many short passes at the back, overplaying in the final third. Lets hope Diouf can come back in a good frame of mind. I would put Stevie Ireland in the hole behind Diouf get him popping the ball around much quicker than we have been doing. Get the ball wide and put crosses in. No fannying around playing little triangles and going for the hollywood slide rule pass. We're not Arsenal. The style is called pass and move not pass, hold onto it, go back, beat three men on the half way line and give it to the centre half. Being more direct does not necessarily mean hoofing it 60 yards

The quality of our shooting is and has been dreadful for years. It doesn't matter who the manager is, who the coaches are or who we sign, we are utter shite.
You see League 2 lads having little trouble hitting the target from 25/30 yards and then witness the likes of Adam, Shaqiri, Arnautovic and even Bojan blazing high and wide.

Clearly it wasn't working but we still persisted playing the same way. Sometimes you need to be big enough as a manager to throw your plan out of the window and change your style as the game dictates. I'm an admiriner of MH and all he's doing but sometimes, just sometimes, he needs to change it.

It's not just shooting though, our crosses are either wildly overhit or don't clear the 1st man. One thing I have noticed is that for most of the game our forward players have their backs to goal while we piss about in our own half knocking it sideways and backwards. They clearly don't expect a forward ball to be coming any time soon else they'd be making runs I'd have thought. Hughes needs to have a look at the overall tactics and the coaches need to work on set pieces, crossing, etc.Basic stuff you would think for a Premiership footballer, but we just can't do it consistently

From the Sentinel report
"Stoke had a lot of possession against Watford, making 432 passes compared to Watford's 176, but the most common was Wollscheid to Erik Pieters (23) and the next was Pieters to Wollscheid (17), closely followed by Wilson to Wollscheid (15)."
That is not how you make chances.Possession is not the be all and end all Mr Hughes

There was a corner in the 2nd half from Charlie Adam as well which looked to be going in, so that could be 3. If a free kick was on target I presume that is classed as on target, a corner is a set piece as well isn't it?

Most of our players made poor choices yesterday. Silly fucking back passes putting defenders or the keeper under pressure when we needed to be playing in their half. Even with 5 minutes left we were fanning around and it was us under pressure not them.

Even with 5 minutes left we were fanning around and it was us under pressure not them. The first 2 minutes set the scene for the match. We kicked off and the ball never left our possession.Unfortunately it didn't leave our half either. When Cameron finally passed forward it was a hit n hop and we lost possession.1 minute later we lose possession again and Deeney? was in on goal. What infuriates me is when Hughes took over 3 seasons ago that's exactly how we played,it took him a few months to realise it wasn't working and change tack. The same thing happened last season and now we're repeating it for a 3rd season. Sometimes we look like Wigan under Martinez, kamikaze in defence

i keep saying this is a blip - but there's a nagging doubt that this is the thin edge - but there's too many blips at home & we're only saved by away wins - its a knife edge which gives first: getting the home form right or the away wins drying up?

Too much fannying around at the back slowed the tempo of our attacks. But even when we did get forward our shooting was woeful. MH needs to put it right for Tuesday.
