Bristol City are making their ground into a decent stadium at long last judging by the game tonight, does anyone ever wonder what the Vic would have been like re-developed?

If done properly it could have been fantastic with poor access. However there was no chance of that happening.
It would have done as cheap as possible. The whole thing would have been ruined.

The Boothen Paddock would have been difficult but the rest could have been done well. West Brom managed to do it.

Would have been a total mess. A nice new Butler Street stand designed to be similar to the one at Barnsley, and the rest would have been seats bolted into existing terracing. Capacity of around 22k with zero room for expansion.

The Vic needed rotating 180 degrees but the trent would have had to be diverted at great cost

I think that Hawthornes is pretty much the perfect model of how to renovate your traditional stadium.

No. Leaving the Vic was absolutely the right thing to do.

It would have been a disaster, bearing in mind that the people responsible made a pig's ear of building a brand new stadium.

The Vic needed rotating 180 degrees but the trent would have had to be diverted at great cost A few JCB's for a couple of weeks would have sorted it out no problems, run it parallel with the A500 to keep it out of the way. Saw Bristol city's ground getting done weekly on the football league show last season, it will be the best ground in the 3rd tier next season

In the mid 90s everything SCFC did turned to shit. It would have been done on the cheap.

Unfortunately moving was the right and only option.
Unfortunately the new stadium was and still is a load of wank and I'd be surprised if it's still standing in 30 years.

The Vic was the oldest professional football ground not only in England but in the whole world.
It was as precious as York Minster, the Tower of London, Lords cricket ground or even Bojan's knees.
To knock it down was cultural vandalism.
The site it stood on is huge. Yes it would have meant culverting the Trent, but isn't that what engineers are for.
England gave the world the game of football. It is a culture that many other nations have embraced. And here in Stoke we were right at the centre of the game's conception. The Victoria Ground was symbolic of the birth of football like no other place. And now it has gone. If lottery money goes to castles, cathedrals and gardens, it should have gone on upgrading the Vic.
Would folk have allowed Stratford-on-Avon to be demolished and replaced as a shiny new town a few miles away???

Many simple solutions were available and they were (are) not particularly expensive. The only problem was SCFC at the time did not have a pot to piss in and so it was never an option. We should have stayed put for a few more years. The Vic still had a good 10 years left in her. We did not need to make that decision at that time. However, I suspect our heads were turned by Mr.Modwen and the City Council offering some grubby incentives and we were at the time the football equivalent of a crack addicted whore looking no further than the easy cash in front of us. Moving was a big mistake and if I had Coates' cash I would move us back there tomorrow.

I miss the Vic too,but I'm glad it wasn't butchered as it would have been. I also think the Britannia is underrated by our own fans.

It's stating the bleeding obvious but the Brit would be improved massively by filling the bloody corners in!!

The concourse behind both goals need expanding.
Some more red and white about the place, more pictures/murals e.t.c.
A fan zone
A train halt.
At least one corner done.
So much can be done.
The money rolls in from next summer.

It would be a greater legacy than winning an Fa Cup/League Cup/Europa League treble IMO. Obviously this is just me daydreaming but I think it's a lovely daydream all the same.
