With Shay Given shagging his knee last night it looks like a case of step up to the bench Jakob Haugaard. No knee injury I can think of gets better real quick and the older you get the longer it takes so I fancy we will have the Dane on the bench for the foreseeable. Wonder if Sparky will play Haugaard against Chelsea in the League Cup as he presumably would have done Given

I think we should go all out against Chelsea and start our strongest eleven, with Butland in goal. I honestly think we have a great opportunity to progress given Chelsea's current issues and this is clearly our most realistic opportunity for taking a crack at silverware.

Chelsea may be on the back foot, but we have to go in to the game full force. Butland to start.

Full team. The new guy can come in if we get drawn against someone crap next round. But I guess the management team know better if he would cope

I agree that Butland should start if Given is not available, yes we should be fielding a strong side but we do have the players to step up to the mark.

I'd start him vs Chelsea in the cup.
He's got to start somewhere so why not there?
And if Butland gets injured down the line (presuming Given is totally fooked) then he'll need to step in so he needs the games.

Play him, as has been said he'll need the games in case he's called up.

Absolutely, we stand a chance of winning this competition, it would be madness not to play our strongest side.

Saw this guy in Singapore. He's a big unit and a real shot stopper, although need's to work on his distribution a bit.

Strongest side. We have a good chance of winning.
Is it likely that Mourinho will play a Chelsea youth/reserve team, or will he go for it in order to snap the team out of their rut?

League form and cup form are two different beasts. Chelsea will be very dangerous and our record against them at the Brit does not inspire confidence. Our chance is slim, not good. We need to be on top of our game from the first minute.

Strongest side. We have a good chance of winning. Is it likely that Mourinho will play a Chelsea youth/reserve team, or will he go for it in order to snap the team out of their rut? I think they had a strong team out last time! GK Asmir Begovic, 6 -- Did not cover himself in glory for Walsall's goal in which he was wrong-footed by the initial free kick and then failed to palm the ball to safety. Had a nervy moment in the second half when he failed to claim a high ball after coming a long way to collect it. DF Baba Rahman, 7 -- A decent second outing for the Ghanaian. Did give the ball away cheaply on a couple of occasions but was defensively sound and offered a threat going forward in the second half when overlapping down the left flank. DF Branislav Ivanovic 5 -- Saw his good work against Arsenal disappear as he endured a torrid first half. Was consistently troubled by former Chelsea trainee Milan Lalkovic and gave away a needless foul from which Walsall scored. Improved marginally after the break. DF John Terry, 6 -- Recalled to the starting line-up, the club legend was unable to impose himself in the manner in which he would have liked. Found himself turned too easily on occasion and became visibly irritated, his frustration culminating in a silly booking for kicking the ball away. DF Gary Cahill, 6 -- Had been the most solid of Chelsea's experienced defenders until he found his feathers ruffled by Walsall striker Jordan Cook during the last quarter of the game. MF John Obi Mikel, 7 -- A player more noted for his defensive rigidity, he made a greater impact in an attacking sense. Played a glorious raking pass behind the defence that Radamel Falcao failed to make count and was instrumental in the build up to Chelsea's third goal. MF Ramires, 8 -- The industrious midfielder was at his energetic best as he burst from box to box all night. Having scored the first and created the second, perhaps it should not have been a surprise that he ended the match in the No. 10 role. MF Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 9 -- Chelsea's brightest young star continues to shine when given the opportunity and must be desperate to prove himself against higher profile opposition. Forged an excellent understanding with Kenedy that bodes well for the future. FW Kenedy, 9 -- A performance full of verve, ambition and end product from the 19-year-old. His inch-perfect cross laid the first goal on a plate for Ramires and he fully deserved to get on the scoresheet himself after being Chelsea's best attacking threat. FW Loic Remy, 7 -- Butchered a simple ball to Falcao that would have played him through in the first half and didn't pass when his fellow striker was all alone in front of goal in the second. Made amends by scoring his first of the season. FW Radamel Falcao, 6 -- The Colombian was a blur of movement and energy but proved too lightweight too often as he was continually bumped off the ball. Will look back ruefully at a glorious chance in the second half that he blazed high and wide with his left foot. Substitutes: FW Pedro, NR -- Typically energetic after his introduction, he could have scored even before he eventually did with an excellent run and drive into the corner.

I think they had a strong team out last time! Wasn't quite as 'desperate' then in terms of league form. Chelsea need to concentrate, very much so, on the Premier League right now and I expect a much changed Chelsea team to line up against us. We'll still do well to progress and I agree with putting out a strong side with a realistic chance of winning since it's perfectly resonable to picture us going all the way if we can get past Chelsea. However, I like the look of the young lad in goal and he has to be given games in case he has to take over in the league. I'd have no worries about playing him against Chelsea.

As ever in the league cup I want to watch the reserves/those not starting in the league. Haugaard Bardsley Shawcross Muni Wilson Sidwell Lecygne Wingie Ireland Afellay Joselu Would do me. I think it would horrify most!
