I've been told numerous times I sound like a scouser, but I'm interested by this because who do we sound like then to scousers ???? The Poterries accent is a geographical hybrid these days. The old Potteries accent of "May un Mar Lady" is almost dead now. For most of the people who grew up in the 90's and 2000's the North Staffs dialect is more of a semi- northern hybrid much in the same way as a Derby or Nottingham accent has become. Derby and Notingham people get called Shefffield, Stokies get called either Manchester or Liverpool. The horrible irony is that it means that the Old Potteries accent is now dying. If not dead.

Maybe it's the big moustache, curly hair and shell suit that gives it away. Eh Eh...Carm down. Oh and my constant urge to nick mountain bikes.

[ Down here in the south west, I'm mistaken as a scouser regularly. A scouser in Plymouth once asked me what part of Liverpool I came from. When I've worked in Scotland they say I sounded like a Brummie. Being over 40 my accent is noticeably stronger than younger lads, so I agree that the accent and dialect are dying. I think this is the same throughout the country. I know young kids from Plymouth deliberately choose not to speak with their local accent.

Hate listening to a broad Stoke accent on the TVs or radio. We just sound thick IMO.
