Nice one, Super Jonny Walters! He's now just two goals from being Stoke's record international goalscorer. Walters is also one appearance shy of picking up 36 caps whilst at Stoke- the same number Gordon Banks achieved whilst in the Potteries.

History will judge SJW kindly it seems, he is already ahead of Peter Crouch in the Stoke City all time Prem scorers list for those who think the world began with the Premier league.
As an aside that Republic of Ireland shirt in the Walters picture in your article looks great to me, actually seems to have a little bit of quality to it and would look decent in the pub and out and about, something like that by way of an away shirt for us next season please Stoke, knocks our dodgy sash number into a cocked hat!

Regarding the Ireland shirt - I like it's retro look. I also like its use of a number on the front of the shirt as well as on the back. I'm surprised we don't see more of this - are there any rules in the Premier League about the use of numbers on the front of the shirt? Obviously, with most clubs (ourselves included) the sponsor's logo takes up the middle spot but I wouldn't mind the shirt number being somewhere on the front.
EDIT: Incidentally, well done again Knowlsey for an interesting and useful piece about our international scorers and appearance records.

Would be good to see SJW take that goal scoring record whilst still on the stoke books but he may only have next month's matches to do so.

He is a credit to the club, I'm delighted that he is still with us.
Outside of Stoke on Trent, this record will mean next to nothing, but it is still an achievement.
Well done SJW!

Isn't it 3? Swear I counted KJ as having 10 whilst playing for us, Walters has 7.
I may have counted wrong mind!

Puts him in the top 2 for another stat then which will please Walters, give him something else to sound off about, yet won't help him a jot in getting the contract he craves.
Roi are an extremely limited international outfit and Jon Walters is an extremely limited footballer.

The Oatcakes number one scapegoat since 2011.
Keep proving the doubters wrong SJW.

If Walters had a fancy foreign name and did what he did last week he'd be widely chastised on here.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. SJW has been fantastic for us.

He's half Irish at least. Any interview I've ever heard over here, he's always been very committed to his Irish roots. However, I agree that he would never have been capped for England. SWJ was given the TV Motm match in both of Ireland's last two games. Putting himself in the shop window. It's probably unlikely he'll still be a Stoke player come January.

I didn't realise it was his mother who was Irish and not some distant Uncle who he hadn't seen for 25 years. I didn't see the second Ireland game but he was about as much the MOM in the first game as he was in the Luton v Stoke game in which the TV also awarded him that dubious honour.

Ireland had no outstanding players in the training spin against Gibralter, but in his usual limited fashion he was a man possessed last night against Georgia, much like we've seen on a regular basis for Stoke, battering defenders, winnings frees and chipping in with the odd goal. Not much between himself and Glenn for Motm award. If as likely he does move on in January, I'll be sorry to see him depart from Stoke and won't be at all surprised if Hughes still gives him a run out in games when Stoke need his physicality.

Without making any comments about his ability, he's behaved like an absolute cock on numerous occasions. His Luton interview was embarrassing, talking as if he was bigger than the club. Like you say, things would be different if he was Johnny Foreigner and you can forget that he runs around a lot bollocks .....

Like you say, things would be different if he was Johnny Foreigner and you can forget that he runs around a lot bollocks ..... Has he? Actually I don't mean 'has he' I mean no he hasn't. He wouldn't have time to while scoring all those goals for club and country. Yes, he quite clearly has in my eyes. Like I eluded to in my original post, he tries to be Mr Bantersaurus Rex like Huth (who it comes natural to) on Twitter and just comes across a total cock. His tweet after the election back in May was appalling, not because he voted Conservative, he as every right to do so, but as I think it was Old Stokie said at the time on here not one thought was spared for the supporters of this football club, who a vast majority of are respectful, honest, working-class people who have and continue to be shafted by the Conservative Party. He mocked those people in that tweet and like I said, he has every right to vote for them but he showed no respect to those people who have afforded him the very mansion that he probably sent that tweet from. I don't wish to open up another debate on that particular instance, though moving on from it as I did I would not have expected him to continue to behave like a complete and utter cock as he has done towards the end of the summer. I have no qualms with any body handing in a transfer request, though the manner in which he has done has been nothing short of childish. He has acted like he is our no.1 player, a strapping 26 year-old footballer with his best years to come and tried to hold the club to ransom, when really we have been rather sensible about the situation. It is quite obvious he is looking for one big cash-in at the end of his career and he knows he simply does not deserve the contract he desires, we have just signed Xherdan Shaqiri in his position for goodness sake. The Luton interview was embarrassing and his tweet on the transfer deadline day, no matter how much 'banter' he showed he had, to me just screamed 'who the fuck do you think you are, Jon?' As another poster has quite rightly suggested, I think people may not have taken his behaviour as lightly if he was a foreigner. Look, I don't like to knock him in terms of his footballing ability and though I was unsure over the summer I am glad he has stayed for those reasons. Don't get me wrong, if he pulls a red and white top on on Saturday I will be at the Emirates willing him to score just as much as anyone else but I really hate how he is this untouchable, model professional in a lot of Stoke fans' eyes and I think the whole hard-working 'SJW' thing is bollocks too, most if not all of our players work hard! I hate this especially when to me has showed he can be an absolute bell end on several occasions and really just needs to pipe down a little bit. You certainly don't get the humble, just happy to be here vibe from him that you got earlier on his Stoke career.

Another note about Walters' international career- he now has the same amount of Irish caps as former Stoke loanee Keith Andrews and Phil Babb...
