I see Phillipe Degen is now criticising Shaqiri over his move to 'middle of nowhere' Stoke, blaming his brother for his badly advised move to Stoke. The first criticism from an ex player was rightly dismissed, but this latest comes from an international colleague. Imho, I think Shaqiri will come good and use Stoke as a possible stepping stone in a few years time.

I'm sure (like all of us) Shaqiri will be very disappointed not to have had the chance to sparkle in his first home game for us (not to mention the announcement of his name being drowned out by the timing of Tony Pulis run down the touchline)
A nervy start for the team but a bit like the Bojan situation , it will take time for him to adjust - indeed he looks almost there.

Like I said, who`s Philippe Degan ? His geography`s crap too, stick a pin in the middle of a map of Britain so that it spins like a catherine wheel and you`re not far from Stoke ! Clearly NOT the middle of nowhere!

I think I'd look at miles chambers who wrote it for some tin pot sports outlet. He probably flew over to Switzerland to get any one of their players to say something that would get a headline, and it did.

Yes he be far better off at one of europes stella clubs, sitting on the bench for 2 years like he did at bayern munich

He is nobody without first team football. We are the team that tried hardest to sign him and we can offer him a place better than most. That, in the most competitive league in the world. Whoever Mr Degan is, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

The choice is play for a club like Stoke, or play for a Champions league club whilst sitting on the bench fiddling with your nadgers, like so many other players want to do.

Sunday Supplement just discussing that a mid table team like Stoke would have no chance of signing such top players without the additional finances from the Premiership.
Well there you go
We've managed to sign him ahead of so called better clubs in the Prem

Gutted that his name got drowned out for the capped arseholes return - knowing Pulis he probably timed his entry to the second as part of a fully dossiered master plan ........we are a bit naive as a club not to think of these things and knowing he likes to come on late tell him you can either go on before or after team announcements .......ooh it's a bitter pill ...gnash gnash ????

I thought Pulis run out was a little off to be honest, waited for all the other staff from both teams to be in place then trotted out waving around. Most seemed to be clapping but after about 10 seconds the announcer got to Shaqiri and the roar was for him.

I don't think he came here for the money but all parties involved knew that his wages would be high and if you can afford it, why not. Even though a lot of the newish signings have all been players who need to prove something, I don't think they would have come if it was just for the money. It shows just what a good man management manager Hughes and the club are.

I've seen no signs that Shaq is too good for SCFC. In a nutshell. He didn't cut it at Bayern not at Inter so perhaps he isn't the love child of Messi and Pele after all. We signed him for the same price as Shane Long as well. He seems to be a potentially classy player but time will tell if he can dominate and control a PL match and conjure up mindblowin goals as these critics seem to feel he can. If he's too good for us, he'll show it. If he doesn't, he isn't. I sincerely hope he proves to be a roaring success but it's up to him to prove his quality after 2 less than successful career moves. Otherwise, it may be argued that mid-table PL is actually his level, or (hopefully not) above his level.

Never heard of Degan. The important thing is that I heard a lot about Shaqiri long before he signed.
