New Order. Restless.
In light of the recent "Ode to Anthony H Wilson" cancer charity record and the fact that New Order are probably the best band ever - any fans?

I used to be obsessed with New Order, although they weren't the greatest live performance. My mate used to say, "If you think Joy Division are depressing, You don't understand them." Favourite song: Angel Dust or Vanishing Point

Current personal favourites are
Leave me a alone and your silent face
when I got married our first record was "Ceremony" - as the wife liked JD and new Order too... in hindsight, probably the only thing we had in common

Never saw Joy Division live (or Warsaw Pact) but saw New Order early 1980s (including there 1983 Viccy Hall gig when they were shit). NO were either rubbish or brilliant live in those days. Saw them at Wolverhampton Civic Hall when they did a few Joy Division songs (Isolation/Transmission/Control etc) and they did Love will Tear us Apart as an encore...Amazing.
Always liked Tony Wilson and his Situationist Views & Peter Savilles designs.
Remember The Hacienda and how they used to Play that Spaghetti Western blokes theme tunes with the posters of Clint Eastwood (early days after they moved from Russell Street) Enrico Marricone or something like that.
Thought NOs best album was True Faith (1986) when they finally found themselves and got away from the 'Movement' albums.
Favourite NO track 'Everythings Gone Green'.

Ian Curtis was an awesome (and, of course, sadly tragic) front man - not so sure about his dancing though!

Favourite song: Angel Dust or Vanishing Point Thats half the fun. The "how crap is Barney's singing going to be tonight?" roulette.

I know it's obvious, but that cover with the Hitler Youth combined with the two groups names. Any ideas!?!

So very nearly a walkout tune..... I prefer the "Substance" version of "1963" myself. Each to their own, though. Here's the video that explains the song too.

I like the instrumental version of 1963 bestest. Went off NO for a while, didn't think they'd stood the test of time, but having seen Hooky a few times recently they're back on the Dansette.
The best live New Order I saw was Leeds Tiffany's. You never quite knew what you'd get live: volatile, abrasive and often quite shit. Teetering on the edge of chaos only the fact that the devotees had memorised everything carried it along.

New Order. Special.
It isn't what it used to be I wake up every night On the stairs Waiting for the dawn to come Every drop of wine You can be my time Only tomorrow knows Why do we beg when we can borrow This time we knew No more or less There's nothing left
It was always special It was like water down the drain I'm intoxicated Every time I hear your name I try to remember But nothing is the same
It wasn't that I didn't try It's not the kind of thing, that you buy Written in my destiny Life is but a dream Covered by the sky Stop saying that you're calling time Look at your life before you start on mine I'm not the kind of person that you need I'm sick of trying I mean that it's over
It was always special It was like water down the drain I'm intoxicated Every time I hear your name I try to remember But nothing is the same It was always special it was like water down the drain
Patiently you wait for me You're so blind I thought it couldn't be Then changed my mind Drowning in the endless sea Line all those lines The traces of your memory Don't belong with mine

I'm a bigger fan of JD than NO (preferring NO's earlier stuff).
Debbie Curtis' book Touching From A Distance is an excellent read and give a personal insight into Ian Curtis' private life and his tragic end - after reading it I think I understood Unknown Pleasures and Closer much better.
Fav track? Well considering they changed so much of the time I'd go:
Early JD - Leaders of Men
Unknown Pleasures - Shadowplay or maybe The Day Of Lords
Closer - Heart & Soul or Atrocity Exhibition or maybe even Isolation
NO - Everything's Gone Green (another vote)
If you haven't seen Anton Corbijn's Control, then I'd defo recommend it.
One of my favourite covers....A Means To An End, Gotico

Going slightly off track (no pun intended) Factory were also responsible for A Certain Ratio..Durutti Column..Stockholm Monsters and my particular favourite..Section 25 (amongst others).
I was always fascinated with Peter Savilles Designs and Factory's near obsessive attention to detail..illustrated best by there catalogue system...said by some to be an extension of Tony Wilsons personality.
The first record Factory put out (FAC2) was a Factory sample including Durutti Column/Joy Division & Cabaret Voltaire.
The first record by a group was (FAC5) A Certain Ratio..All Night Party. FAC10 was JDs Unknown Pleasures and the first JD single Factory released was (FAC13) Transmission.
Factory catalogued everything from FAC1..A Poster advertising a 1978 gig at The Factory Club (JD/A Certain Ratio/Tiller Boys/Big in Japan/Cabaret Voltaire) to FAC501 the Plaque on Tony Wilsons coffin.
Tony Wilson always said that it was better to make History than Money and he certainly did that. An absolutely fascinating character 'Broadcaster and Cultural Catalyst' as somebody once said.

Kalima Abecedarians Cath Carroll The Railway Children Biting Tongues
James Happy Mondays
thanks for reminding me about Stockholm Monsters, 'Fairytale'. They were ace.
The artwork is immense. 'Atmosphere' and 'Blue Monday' 12" are iconic 80's ephemera.
Happy to have witnessed this shit at fairly close quarters.

Still not sure why I embraced
Movement Ceremony Procession
A bit like a holding exercise during the transition. Big fan of 'In a Lonely Place'.
'Atrocity Exhibition' from 'Closer' still blows me head straight off.
