To be fair, in light of the publicity from Marvellous, it seems to have shifted slightly in that Lou is now showing more of a public affection to Stoke City. However, there have been many times when I have thought it abundantly clear that his loyalties lie with the Shit. Ryan is a shit supporter, you do know that right? What has that got to do with Higginbotham and what he has said or what I have said re Lou above?

Wonder if he's bitter that Hughes didn't want him when he took over from pulis, that's why he talks stoke from the past up but is critical of Hughes and what he's doing .

The question of a player having to hand in a transfer request is a non story really. If a club wants to buy a player and offers mega money for him (and a mega wage to him) then it is a no brainer for him to forgoe his loyalty bonus which would otherwise be due from the selling club. If the transfer fee is modest then who can blame the club who holds his registration saying to him "if you want to leave us then you should forgo your loyalty bonus because you are not exactly showing much loyalty are you?" Loyalty bonuses SHOULD be paid when a player doesn't particularly want to leave but his club decides to accept an offer for him. I expect Peter Thorne was paid his loyalty bonus when he left for Cardiff as (as far as I can recall) he hadn't shown any desire to leave. Perhaps the highest profile reluctant transfer out of Stoke in my lifetime was Jimmy Greenhoff. He sat on the steps next to the pitch and cried his eyes out when he was TOLD he was going to Man Utd - and Waddo sat down next to him and cried as well. Players were still treated almost like slaves in those days being bought and sold whether they wanted to move or not.

Lou clearly does have an affection for Stoke. To be fair, in light of the publicity from Marvellous, it seems to have shifted slightly in that Lou is now showing more of a public affection to Stoke City. However, there have been many times when I have thought it abundantly clear that his loyalties lie with the Shit. His 'loyalties'? My word, this thread is another fine example of what a shower of negative shite the Oatcake has become lately. Lou Macari still lives in Stoke, seems a friendly bloke whenever you may bump into him around the city and obviously takes an interest in the club, why would he be arsed to write a column on us if he didn't? He is probably the first to admit his 'loyalties' were with United, who can blame him after his playing career there? He'd laugh in your face if you claimed that questioned his 'loyalty' to Stoke, what a fickle sentiment that is - this whole us or the shit bollocks? Same for Higginbotham, why are people questioning his integrity? He's doing a lot of punditry work lately and what do people expect? I can see why people think he is negative but for me, he is fairly constructive. You don't see Gary Neville praising everything United do just because it's a team he favours. Jamie Carragher on the other hand seems to be very biased towards Liverpool which is why he is miles behind Neville. I wouldn't expect Higginbotham to be any different, and I'm not dumb enough to take it as him having some vendetta against Stoke if he does appear critical. Very childish behaviour, like asking your mum to choose a favourite sibling.

Can't remember Higgy refusing to play or slapping in almost daily transfer requests like two very recent departures from the club. There's a bit more integrity, honesty and openness about Higgy than Messrs N'Zonzi and Begovic. I can remember him refusing to play.

I am not slagging him whatsoever BUT pretty much every time, before Marvellous, in the interviews outside of the Sentivale, obviously influenced heavily by his work with MUTV, he has not spoken well of Stoke compared to the Shit. Again, I am not calling his person into question. Nor am I questioning whatever feelings he may or may not have towards my club as I do not know him personally. I made a comment some time ago on here that I was disappointed in an interview he had given and that in some way it tainted a little my feelings towards what were fantastic times as a supporter of Stoke City. To hear him be dismissive of Stoke in interviews, whilst possibly being professionally accurate, smacked a little of "they pay me more" to me. I would also suggest that he writes for the Sentivale as they pay him to.

My point is, it's entirely possible for a player to have split allegiance. I like to think that Bojan is absolutely loving it and slowly growing on our club, but at the same time, I fully expect him to love Barcelona for the rest of his life. Macari and Higgy both owe a fair whack of their careers to the shit.

Yes, I seem to remembering him not playing at least one game before his move and the word was that he was fit to play but his head wasn't right. Different to N'Zonzi's regular strops - more like Bego's last weeks, to be honest.

Its a common thing for clubs to ask players to do that. I'm sure Andy Carrol had to do the same with Newcastle when Liverpool came in with a ridiculous bid a few years back.

Just as others have said when Higgy first went into punditry he was extremely pro Stoke City. Since signing for MUTV however that attitude and standing has tempered somewhat to a point where he now, at times, presents the impression of disdain...just a little.

When he talks tactics and Stoke, he's always essentially saying the problem is that we don't play like we did when he was there anymore.

Selling Higginbotham paid for promotion. £3m that got spent on Ryan, Cort and the loan signings that got us promoted. He was only worth 3m because he played his bollocks off the season before and when we bought him back at the same price it kept us in the Prem so it was great business and we owe a lot to Higgy both directly and indirectly. He always speaks well of the club.

Ethers seems genuinely worried about losing key players who have been so good for us. Bloody hell! Traitorous scumbag! I know right! Higgi does go a bit beyond that but it's not too far what a lot of people are saying.

Well I believe that is his job, is it not? I'm sure you can appreciate it is probably easier to sing the praises of United's recent history than ours, especially as he is primarily a United fan. He would probably be the first to admit that.

He was out and out dismissive of Stoke City and their chances verses the Shit. He was professionally accurate as they are the bigger team and are therefore the more fancied side. In the TV interview and subsequent radio interview at the time you would never have known he had any ties with us whatsoever, that was disappointing.
