On sky sports news now and has just said that Stoke made him hand in a transfer request, before we would let him move too Sunderland.

Struggle to see how we could 'make' him in an age when players hold all the power.

It changes our obligations to him doesn't it. If he wanted away that much then he would have to give up his 'loyalty' bonus. I presume he took that option to speed up the process?

All clubs are the same arent they - if you want away, then you have to give up any demands on the club to pay up any bonus payments you were due for loyalty (ie if a club wants to cash in on you as a commodity, then they also have to pay you off to go, whereas if its you that wants to go, you have to give that up and submit a transfer request)
Not sure why he has bought that up unless he was explaining why Stones has had to put in a request first (and Berahinio), it basically limits the liabilities of the selling club in terms of payments.
(and I guess makes them - the club - look like the victim not the bad guy ;-) )

Being a bit cynical here, why bring it up now ??
What was the conversation that triggered this statement ?

These are professional players, it's their job, if someone offers you more money or a better job and you move, does that mean you didn't like working there? People on here are so paranoid they a dieing for someone to cause them offence.

Saw that, and gotta say it made sense to me. If we release a player his value drops considerably, if he puts in a request then we can get more. So good Biz all round.

Well said on "read the book". All will be revealed and more. A good read. I thought it was a standard run of the mill sports autobiography. Every now and again you will get one thats worth reading but to be honest they're usually not very good.

He talks with affection about Tony pulis and the atmosphere at the Brit but I always have the impression with him, rightly or wrongly, that he cant wait to denigrate everything our club has achieved since both he and pulis left.

Always think Danny Higginbotham talks a lot of sense, don't really see the problem with him telling the story of how he left the club. As for his affinity and affection for Stoke City, I think it's pretty plain to see.

Same as Lou, they're both paid better by the Shit Lou clearly does have an affection for Stoke. To be fair, in light of the publicity from Marvellous, it seems to have shifted slightly in that Lou is now showing more of a public affection to Stoke City. However, there have been many times when I have thought it abundantly clear that his loyalties lie with the Shit.

It is down to loyalty bonuses, the transfer fees we paid for Jones (£2m of the £8m reportedly), Crouch and numerous others have been inflated by quite a bit because they've then said they want us to cover the loyalty bonus fee they're due as well. If a player requests to leave then they forfeit that bonus.
In Higginbothams case the fee wasn't huge so if he had a hefty loyalty bonus relating to a transfer in his contract then it may not really have been worth it for us selling him, not to mention it also absolves the club of any real blame in letting a player who didn't want to go. The club then knows the player wants to leave beyond just getting a payoff from the current club, and can hold that up as the reason he was let go.

Can't remember Higgy refusing to play or slapping in almost daily transfer requests like two very recent departures from the club.
There's a bit more integrity, honesty and openness about Higgy than Messrs N'Zonzi and Begovic.

If a player wants to go have the bollocks to say so.
