Jack Butland is just Stoke's fourth goalkeeper in the Premier League. Have you ever wondered how that record compares to other clubs in the top division? I wondered, so decided to write some words about it.

Surprised to see Man City on 7?
I thought Hart had been their number one for at least 5 years now.

One of the most amazing stats in that piece is that only 9 clubs (including Stoke) can boast an 8 year continuous current run in the Premier League. Especially amazing considering that Villa and Blunderland could have got relegated last season.
Good work Knowlsey 10/10!

I agree with that Lakeland Potter. I hadn't really thought about the clubs around us before. Given that Sunderland have been up and down a fair bit since the introduction of the Premier League they've done well to cling on for so long. Not so sure they'll be there at the start of the 2016-17 season though...

In terms of attendance we are at the bottom of the list of 9 clubs. The closest to us are Villa and Everton who probably average about 9,000 more per game than us and there will be four of five of the teams below us last season who have bigger gates than us. Proof that Coates and his successive managers, TP and Hughes, really have got us punching above our weight in terms of league success v attendances since promotion.

It's a fair point but do gate receipts mean a great deal as far as revenue is concerned these days, what with all the TV money the premier league clubs are getting? I don't think we are particularly punching above our weight at the minute,we are pretty close to being as high in the league as we possibly could imagine but considering we have multi millionaire owners and all the money we have accumulated since being in this league I think we are about where we should expect to be really. Obviously where we are now cannot be taken for granted and we are lucky in the fact that we are a really well run club but mid table and just above is about right I reckon. Don't get me wrong, for the first couple of seasons in this league we were definitely punching above our weight and everyone concerned did a superb job keeping us where we were.

I take your point that gate receipts are a fraction of the TV money. But as well as low (ish) crowds we also have cheaper tickets than most, and I'd imagine that our merchandising sales will also be lower as a consequence. I also think it is no co-incidence that the clubs with bigger grounds and bigger crowds than us also TEND to have bigger advertising revenue and sponsorship revenues. In some cases clubs comparable in league position (or lower) than ourselves have very much bigger income streams from advertising and sponsorship - tens of £millions in some cases. Don't get me wrong I'm proud of how well we are doing but I do feel that if it were "marketed" better, there are many more £millions in revenue to be generated without raising ticket prices. And more revenue does equate to more money available for "next level" transfers and wages.

You might be right, but I think there's been a big change over the last few years and some of the club's that would have regarded themselves big clubs in the past, cannot label themselves this anymore just because they get good attendances. I don't know the figures and I might be totally wrong but do teams like Newcastle,Sunderland,Villa and so on make that much more money than us through sponsorships and advertising these days? They obviously make more money through merchandising due to being more heavily supported than us but I'm not so sure about the rest? Like I say I don't know the figures and somebody probably will on here and I might be talking a right load of shit, it wouldn't be the first time or the last

Just one thing, shouldn't Chelsea be on the list of teams who have been in the Prem since we went up? I heard they recently got a new keeper.

Top 6 (and Everton) won't drop for the foreseeable future, so effectively it's only Aston Villa and Sunderland who have survived with us.

All the more striking when you consider that Simmo and Butland have only played a handful of games between them. In fact Sorensen or Begovic have featured in 259 of our 268 Premier League games since promotion.
I feel bad for Sorensen leaving us on 99 league appearances and falling just short of playing 100 Prem games for three different clubs. The player I can think of who's done that is Rory.

Hi StoKeith- thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you're on the ball...I must have eradicated Chelsea and goalkeepers from the back of my mind! I've updated it now- they used six prior to Begovic arriving.
