The following photos are from an article in Voetbal International - a dutch footy magazine. It gives a very interesting insight into how the cloggies view us...going from the low points, the Pulis era and finally thru to how Mark Hughes has developed the squad. More media exposure can only be good for us. In addition, the likes of Peter Hoekstra, Bojan, Pieters having the dutch connection also puts us in a position of being quite a few dutchies favourite premiership club. The other poignant thing about it is the people who go to the game - the fans. The Dutch see this through the atmosphere thats created and they like what they see and hear. Peter Coates also gets a glowing reference of a 'role model' owner Im not very good at bringing things over and describing them but thats the jist of the article.... An enjoyable read.... Got the opening from the website but you need to subscribe to get the rest...
Manchester United, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Southampton color orange. Stoke City has after the arrival of Ibrahim Afellay three Dutch and two foreigners with Eredivisie history. All of the club is trying especially to ride on the success of Barcelona.
It was only a trivial factoid of The Daily Mail, but no less fun. Of all the current Premier League teams, after Manchester United and Chelsea, Stoke City has the most Champions League winners in his selection. Thanks to Ibrahim Afellay, who number opschroefde to four. No extreme number, but more than, say, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. The magic name Barcelona on the resume, the Cup with the Big Ears; it opens the door just a little easier, also has noticed Afellay in Stoke-on-Trent.
Everyone knows that the former PSV player has no happy years behind, plagued by injuries and in his last period at Barcelona (second half of the season 2013/14) often do not even good enough for a place in the squad. Yet capture doorThe Potters explained as coup. "If the supporters of Stoke were surprised last year with Bojan Krkic, they will be stunned with Afellay ', said the British radio station Talk Sport. "Again, a Barcelona-star Stoke City. Who's next ?! '

In my mind all our players are either Dutch, Spanish or Irish now.

When I left Stoke in April 2000 to move to Eindhoven I would never have expected this situation. Shit badly-paid job in Stoke (Caudwell's), the Potters in a miserable period. I have to confess lack on money and lack of entertainment meant I'd stopped watching games.
The idea of Stoke having 2 ex-PSVers and 2 current Dutch internationals in our team is bizarre.
