It pains me to say it but what a dire spectacle I had to give my ST to someone else as I couldn't get there but watched it on Sky and it was about as exciting as watching paint dry. Liverpool were fucking dogshite as well, along with their new long ball tactic to crash hat head. We desperately missed N'Zonzi and the players didn't look sharp or very fit. Has Hughes been concentrating so hard on signing Kono, Yarmo or Shaqiri that he's neglected other areas of the pitch? How have we gone from looking amazing at the end of May to looking complete wank by the beginning of August against a team that looked even worse yesterday than they did in that match in May? No pace no creativity no urgency (except for the last 3 minutes) shit crossing unable to go past a player and as the title says "slow ponderous and boring". We need to improve drastically in the next few weeks or we could be looking at ending August without a point in the league. Gouranga.

give them a chance, I agree it wasn't a stellar performance but neither was the first game last season vs Villa. We will be just fine, you will see

Worst thing was we lost, I can live with all 3 facets in the Subject, it is the 'nil points' that has left me utterly crestfallen.

nzonzi (the glue between our defence and attack and the ballwinner/tempo setter in the middle of the park) has gone so we missed him in there which is why we were werent playing like last season. Van ginkel johnson and affelay have come in but still all not match fit and they all need time to settle and gel. will be on fire soon. Overreacting there a bit Mr Tatlock ;-)

Our problem is pace on the wings. Also our ball retention is lacking without the Zonzy

Our problem is pace on the wings. Also our ball retention is lacking without the Zonzy This was the key. We actually did quite well but lacked any really dynamism and penetration. Shaq, Bojan and Arnie would make a difference to most teams in world football however.

I was disappointed yesterday. I'm no pessimist and think we'll have another great season but it was so disappointing to start off with such a lack of urgency again. It was a carbon-copy of Villa last year. From the 70th minute onwards I was just praying we wouldn't let a goal slip because scoring one ourselves just seemed to me at least to be extremely unlikely. It was extremely disappointing. I don't want to play at home again on the first day next year.

I thought Hughes would have gone for Mama on the wing with new boy J uptop to give us that pace. When key players are fit and hopefully been signings this will be addressed!

Getting something at Spurs is a long shot despite last seasons double, but I think we should win one and draw one of Norwich and WBA which would at least have the scoreboard ticking over before we go to Arsenal for our annual defeat.

We deserved to lose to Villa, but yesterday the least we deserved was a draw. Agree we were missing pace out wide, no penetration, but still should have scored. All the attention was on Liverpools new boys, but I thought our new ones played better.

All i've heard all day at work is how shit both teams were yesterday.I didn't think it was that bad although when your a fan you do get wrapped up in the game and sometimes see things differently.Like Jamo said earlier we need PACE back in the team if we are to see the same results as last season.

I was beginning to think that I was the only one who struggled to find positives from yesterday. The main tactic seemed to be pass the ball sideways across defence until pressured into kicking it forward hopefully. We hardly got into Liverpool's penalty area and didn't force a single meaningful save from their goalie. The lack of fitness that Albert mentions was worrying and indefensible. If we deserved a point it was because Liverpool were equally poor and disorganised.
