This is one of the few times since the start of last season (except for fairly meaningless pre-season games) that we played without either Bojan or N'zonzi and it showed. Until he got injured Bojan was tremendous and N'zonzi picked up where Bojan left off. Van Ginkle and Affelay have great potential; however, they need to pick up the pace PDQ until Bojan and Arnie are back.

We missed Marko as well. He holds the ball well, can pick a pass and can go past a player. We missed that yesterday.

Agree re Arnie Afellay impressed but he's clearly inclined to play centrally. Still Arnie can't be far off.

I think Affelay had a good game yesterday, he was double marked for a lot of the time.
After his early yellow card, he was more cautious when tackling back
We missed Arnie
His strength in particular would have caused more problems for the Liverpool defence
Nevertheless, better to have not taken any risks with him (or Bojan), pity we don't have a couple more weeks to get the team to gel
All very positive imo

I agree we really missed Arnie yesterday who is one of our most creative players, and been one of our better players during preseason too. Hopefully fit for next game, and if we can sign Shaq too this is starting to look very good on paper at least!

N'zonzi ain't no Bojan, nowhere fuckin near! Has anyone said that N'Zonzi is a Bojan? He isn't. But I thought it was accepted that when Bojan was out and Adam was in midfield, that N'Zonzi's role changed to allow Adam to make runs from deep in midfield.

The ref did no favours whatsoever booking him. Felt it was a very poor decision from a typical big team ref. He let similar challenges go all game and didn't book them.

I thought Afellay looked really good but agree that we missed Arnie. Looking forward to when we have him and Bojan back. Thought Van Ginkel was okay but a bit nervous and he disappeared for large chunks. Excited to see a full team with Shaqiri - MH will be spoilt for choice!

Afellay played really well but doesn't appear to have the extra yard of pace required to play out wide for us.
He'll be a really useful addition to the squad though.

Arnie would have murdered them down the left yesterday, there were so many open spaces there throughout the game
