I don't hate sidwell of course but I think he's a liability and wish we had someone much better than him coming off the bench . How many points has he cost us last season ? Wasn't that a stupid tackle today?! aBC of football not to make that kind of mistake. And if you don't know that then give up football and take up curling or some other sport

Have you ever caught yourself thinking "I'm glad we've got Sidwell"? I had an open mind. He used to be good. But now he's not. That's all. It's not based on this game. It's based on his time at Stoke.

Very poor mistake that shouldn't be made from a player of his experience.
It's not the first time he's done it.
How much pre season as he had because he looks rusty as hell.

Really poor error for their goal , I wonder if we would be better having th elikes of Shenton and Moha on the bench and use their energy , both impressed me against Porto when they came on disappointing as there were a lot of positives in the game today and losing always leaves a cloud

Thing is, if he'd have made any positive contribution coming on then we could cut him some slack. As it is, he lost possession multiple times and inevitably got mugged for their goal at a time in the match where he needed to be sharp. He was really poor.

Sidwell offers us nothing much and takes up a wage and a squad place. If Leeds or similar are still interested, I'd listen to offers. My only worry is, if Glenn gets injured, what cover do we have? Geoff long term, I guess, but right now he is our irreplaceable Ryan deputy at the back.
Sidwell needs to play regularly - and we cannot offer him that.

I know where you're coming from when things get personal or out of all proportion to how poor they are (Cameron and Wollscheid have both had their juggernauts of hate way out of scale with their crimes against football, Danny Collins probably deserved it) but it won't be much of a forum without reasonable, level-headed criticism now and then.

First thing he did was fall over and leave them with a lot of space to run into. It's not the first time he's cost us points, he seems like a decent lad but man alive, he just isn't good enough at this level anymore. Really strange substitution.
Early days though. There was a lot of positives out of todays performance.

The kangaroo court is out in force I see. Not really. It's another game where he's come on and cost us points. Absolute bollocks. How about having a word with the rest of the team who created pretty much fuck all for the whole 90 minutes? He lost out in a tackle that he probably should have won or at least not gone in as he did,but we lost to an absolute wonder strike and the fact that we did little to deserve to win the game long before Sidwell even entered the pitch.

It's a team game, so why don't you try laying the blame at the teams feet for doing nowhere near enough in 90 plus minutes to win the game? The game was won by the one piece of individual brilliance in the game, not because Sidwell cost us the game.

My criticism stems from his lack of positive contribution to the team's output. Is that valid?

His first contribution was to fall over and and let Liverpool in and he quickly followed that up by losing possession in their half. There were also misplaced balls and then, of course, his involvement in their goal. It's not 'scapegoating' to point out when someone has a poor game, especially when it's a substitution which is supposed to add to the team and it's something that has sadly happened before.

But there are plenty on this thread who are blaming him for us not winning today, and that,as you have also agreed,is complete and utter bollocks. We have this shit every time we lose a game of football on here and it gets a bit tiresome to be honest,if it wasn't Sidwell today it would have been someone else's fault, when plain and simple, the whole team were well below par and created next to fuck all during the whole game.

Some of the comments on here are ridiculous but you can't hide from the fact that he has a tendency to cost us points, especially in the last 10 minutes of games. He was abysmal today and even that seems like a compliment.
