I have many opinions in my old age but I am learning that sometimes it is better for all if I bite my tongue. There will be many Stoke fans who are having worries about one thing or another but comment needs to be more constructive and less volatile and certainly without so many expletives! Silverdollar I am pretty sure you have spotted a few talented players in the past that the first thing that you look for in a player, I have done the rounds with a few scouts from different clubs they always assess firstly the athleticism of any prospect, then moving onto other attributes as I am sure you know, do you think Wolfy has the athletic capabilities to make it in the Premiere league? That pretty much confirms what I've long thought Carps. No wonder English players are generally so devoid of natural football ability/technique. Since when has athleticism trumped football ability? How many of the Spanish/Barca team would English scouts have picked up using athleticism as the main desirable attribute? Fookin depressing

I think your obsession with Robert Huth is getting a touch disturbing, are you sure it's just his defending you admire so much. To be fair I wasn't asking your opinion I was addressing silverdollar who has forgotten more about talent spotting than you have learned, which is obvious from the tripe you post. I love irony. Fish fiddler the super scout, which edition of FM do you use.

Great post, what I would add is this seeming hatred of some players carries through the season as agendas. After a match when one of these individuals makes a mistake, as all players do from time to time, the same posters appear spewing their usual bile, totally silent when they play well. That's a typical message board I guess. I am just excited to be supporting a Club which is trying to progress, with what I can see is an improving squad, especially the young talent being brought in, and a pretty decent management team who handle themselves brilliantly week after week. And no I am not a happy clappy kind of guy, just grateful I can be proud of my team again.

If I was at all bothered about the comments and rants of some supporters, I'd have stopped going to watch Stoke sixty years ago. It went on then, goes on now, and will no doubt go on in the future.I go to watch Stoke because I love Stoke, and in their own way, so do those that like a rant, no matter how unreasonable it seems to me.Really ca't imagine life without a game to go to, good game or bad, good result or bad. There's always next week, until one day, there ain't, so love it today for what it is.

You usually find its the Johnny come lately's that have jumped on the prem band waggon, fuck em, haters hate, I have a vale supporting mate who says he doesn't mind stoke that much just the supporters that think we became into existence in 2008 and are unaware we used to play next to the D road... And how we have progressed. We now play next to the A50.

I have watched Wollsheid since he arrived and I have seen him play efficiently and distribute the ball well. He needs to be stronger in my mind to cope with the physical aspects of defending in English football. What immediately struck me was his lack of pace! I can see why some fans are tearing their hair out but as I have already commented I also made the same initial thoughts about Mertesacher at Arsenal. Time has seen him settle into the team and he is now a regular. At the moment I am trusting in Mark Hughes to management his contribution in the team and I am hoping that he goes on to prove all the moaners wrong! I respect your opinion hopefully you are right, one question who would you rather have as cover for Ryan in the circumstances we find ourselves in Wolf, Wilson, Cameron or a match fit Robert Huth ?. I will always have great respect for Hutch and his total commitment to Stoke's cause. He was a physical presence that was 100% in his tackles and very good in the air. He played in a defence set up by Tony Pulis. During this period Shawcross and Huth were playing with good and compact cover in front of them and generally the space they had around them was smaller and there was no responsibility to retain possession and make short passes. It was a densive set up that played to Huth's strengths! Mark Hughes has changed the style of football at Stoke and we are more expansive. Defenders have to take on more responsibility, operating in a larger space with less cover. This did not play to Huth's strengths. Huth was not that technically able. If you take in Huth's long term injury and his inability to get back to the level he had prior to his injury I can understand Hughes decisions. Personally I think Stoke are not as strong defensively as I would like to see them but statistics on last season will tell you something different. Hughes is privy to the state of Shawcross's fitness. If Wollsheid is to prove Hughes's faith in him, he needs to be playing so I believe him and Miniesa will be the pairing on Sunday.
