If Gatlin beats Bolt at the World Championships that'll go a long way to ruin any credibility Athletics has left.

Are you sure that was Coe, and not the current president of IAAF (bloke from an African country, forget his name)? It was definitely Coe being interviewed on BBC news this morning RRP. Yeah, just read the article on the BBC website now. Sorry about that - his quotes sounded very much like those from the existing IAAF president, which is surprising as Coe is normally pretty media savvy. A lot of what is coming out of IAAF at the moment is similar to what was being said by the UCI a few years back. The idea that Coe thinks it's the journalists, and not the doping athletes/officials/organisations, that are waging war on the sport of athletics is laughable.

In his defence, athletics has done shed loads to get rid of drugs in sport generally.
Athletics as a sport were the first to introduce independent anti doping regimes, random drug tests, etc.
It doesn't mean there isn't a problem, but some people are making out like they've tried to do nothing about it when they have.

RRP is spot on, the UCI took what appears to be the same approach, by managing the situation rather than attempting to eradicate it. As for Coe, it sounds like he needs to say the right things to the members of the IAAF, rather than the press, this has more than the whiff of Blatter to it. If there is a cover up, the the IAAF will be finished, they are protecting themselves, and will do so until evidence of a cover up is produced.
