What happened I missed the missed tackle The ball was played on the edge of the box to the winger who was inside the box. Johnson could have chosen to get goal side of the winger but instead he chose to directly follow the line of the ball, perhaps thinking he could intercept it. However, this proved to be the wrong decision and,out of position, his only choice was to (a) make a sliding tackle or block and risk injury or giving away a penalty or (b) do nothing and let the winger have a free shot under no pressure. Johnson chose the latter.

Has there been any explanation about why he's apparently so unfit?
Is he coming back from an injury or something?
Cheers

So it's just a bit of match sharpness that he's lacking then, there's no reason why he shouldn't be fit?

I fuckin despair I really do. We haven't even kicked a ball in anger yet. Pre season is used to assess the suitability, fitness etc of the players you have at your disposal for the start of the next season, on the evidence so far we appear to be weaker than last season, it was obvious that Johnson was not fit in any way to warrant a start against Liverpool.

I don't know, only hughes said he's unfit and needs to train I believe...

Just took doggie for a walk and returned - to be told Im 'knicker wetting' - 'get a grip youth' - 'its pre season' 'people in despair' apparently - so on and so forth
not doing this to attention seek or assassinate players before they even play a game in anger
It IS a discsusion point though - its about how I feel today - the guys got 'previous' on his defending standards too
What Im pointing out though - for a professional footballer - to pull on our shirt and shirk a tackle in such an obvious way
friendly or not
IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME - OR, STOKE CITY
piss poor at the very least I would say
4th choice at Rb Now (as far as I am concerned) until he shows me otherwise
and -if he is that unfit -he shouldve been subsituted - get the hard yards done on the training ground before pulling on the shirt

I'd play me on my walking stick before I'd play Glen Johnson v Liverpool.
For me he pushed up far too often and lost the ball getting caught out with a simple ball over the top , time and time again.
Did not have the pace to get back and did not have the balls to tackle in the box.
If Mark Hughes thinks he can make something out of him then I accept he knows more than me, but the first thing he needs is some pride in the shirt he is wearing.
Glen we are not a step down we are a chance for you to get your act together and push for a place back in the England team. Your choice if you take that chance.

I find his attitude the worst problem, the non-tackle, he misplaced a few passes and the winger burst past him, no attempt at recovery, just Oh well. They were playing balls behind him all afternoon , as he was caught too far up the field when they were in possession. Hopefully it is just a case, of it's only a friendly, but I have my doubts.

After being forced to witness Ibrahima Sonko attempt to defend, I can sleep easily knowing whatever Johnson produces it can't, and will never be as hilariously awful as what agent Sonko produced.

Lifting weights isn't the same as getting a good run out. If anything, he needs to run more, lift less lol I'd trust MH and Eddie's assessment on his match fitness over his actual fitness... He's an athlete but he hasn't played a full 90 in quite sometime and it showed earlier yesterday. He might just very well start to get minutes. He really needs em compared to others who have been training much long on the club's regimen.

Obviously Hughes doesn't know what he's doing, or does he think he can get something out of player with 50+ caps. Judging by expert opinion on this board, he's a write off already.

This is going to be pulled up, along with any Wollscheid threads at the end of the season and is going to make a lot of people look very daft.
You'd think people would have learned from Bojan, Arnie and Diouf to lay off players for the first couple of months.
He missed a tackle in a friendly. If that makes you angry then you need to reassess your priorities in life.

That's nearly every stoke player who's new or being moved around, but those three especially got some weird stick lol I still laugh when I read some of those brought up threads... "arnie's a lazy git" always get's me cracking. Classic that one.

It was a pathetic attempt it really was. the ball was there to be one and dealt with. The lad clearly isn't fit and he was so far off the pace it was untrue. But he wasn't the worst! Muniesa was far far worse than Johnson yesterday

More - what he didnt do - 2 minutes left in the game he literally lets a fella walk past him in the box without even attempting to stop him scoring the winning goal. Theres young acadamy kids we got who, (E.G. YOUNG RIGHT BACK WHO DID SECOND HALF AT WREXHAM) would love a chance to play in such games to not even try - wearing our bloody shirt - friendly or not, near unforgivable in my book and yes welcome to Stoke dont try - and see what you get was raging at the telly at the time - still pretty pissed off right now Yeh but you're pissed off all the time to be fair. You live in a perpetual rage
