Courthino had tried to cut in and shoot in the first half and been closed down by Whelan and Van Ginkel. As he picked the ball up I said to the guy next to me he's "he's going to shoot, he's going to shoot. " as Sidwell backed off him. Very similar to a goal he score at the end of last season. Was it Sunderland?

Oh you have the right to determine who is and isn't a stoke supporter well i never . The point of a message board is that people with a common interest share their opinions ideally without abuse . Hey ho shout all the names you like my view is we have regressed from last year and have a struggle ahead if you want to believe differently i hope your right . I think if we play as we did today we will win more games than we lose. The difference between the last game and this is three fold. They have strengthened their centre with Milner. We had one of our most inspired players injured (Arnie) and most significantly they came here with far more respect for our ability and virtually played a back 5 to defend with.

I thought everyone played well today. I thought we were by far the better side in the first half, we just lost to an unstoppable magic moment from coutinho. We were so unlucky and we definitely deserved something out of that game. I thought pieters was amazing, didn't make one single mistake and kept their winger in his pocket. Shame he got injured but Wollschied did surprisingly very well too. Diouf didn't do much but you can't blame him,he never got a chance to shoot.

I thought there were plenty positives to be taken from today: * Thought Johnson was impressive * Afellay looked good and when fully fit will prove a very astute signing * Van Ginkel although a bit loose in possession early on came onto a good game and I liked the runs he was making ahead of the ball. * Whelan, Muni and Cameron all solid
To think we've Ryan, Arnie, Bojan and fingers crossed Shaqiri to come into the side I'm feeling positive we can have another stellar season.

Just realised, with a name like Benjamin, snigger, and of course, it's school holidays. No doubt he was in the family stand with Aunty. Bed time now.

that goal today was the difference, we need someone to take a few pot shots from range and hope one goes in. but then again he probably scores 1 in every 10 like that

Yesterday I was gutted at the fact we'd been beat when i thought we deserved at least a point. Today I'm reading that Joe Gomez was outstanding and basically didn't let Walters have a kick which helped them. Is it me or did Walters make the lad look a bit Sunday league? Don't get the media at all, they don't read up on players outside the top 6 and always seem to give them good reviews when they were shite. That's the worst Liverpool team I've ever seen, play like that all year and they'll struggle for top 8 never mind Champions League. Very angry that again bullshit journalists have taken a very good stoke performance and made us out to be 'toothless'.
From a stoke point of view though, I don't think the outgoing players will be as missed as first anticipated, plenty in the squad to see us finish top 10 again, very confident this year! GOARRRN STOKE

Some good football by U.S., thought they were poor considering their summer spend. They had no goal threat, but unfortunately neither did we. Nor did we have much width. Given who was out of contention I thought we did ok. Very clear why MH wants wingers. Would have made all the difference today, specially if crouchy had been in. Suspect he hasn't fully recovered from his op. That elbow on Diouf was a straight red for me. Onward n upward.

Crouch should have at least come on as sub.

Totally agree on crouch the subs were very strange odenwinge clealry has some way to go and the sidwell one shows how we desperately need another midfielder as Hughes wasn't prepared to trust Ireland .
Very unusual as they were negative substitutions . begs rhe question where does Joselu fit as it was a frat change for him 10 minutes to go diof out wide .
Still it just emphasises how much we still need to invest envelope shaq would only take us to +5 and I'm my view yesterday and summer suggest we need a net + 20 spend to improve minimum

If we bought Tom Pope for 25million would that mean we have improved? Just because we have spent more? No.

It was quite a strange feeling after the game for me. After the first game last season against Villa, I came away from the ground gutted and it was such an anti-climax after the positive summer we'd had. Yesterday I was fearing the worst and not expecting us to get anything, yet I left the game feeling quite positive about things and no that arsed that we'd lost.
There was absolutely nothing between the two sides, apart form a brilliant strike from a world class player. To think that Liverpool spent over £70m in the summer is actually quite amusing because they were utter gash and will be nowhere near the top four this season. Considering we've got Shawcross, Bojan, Arnie and possibly Shaqiri to come into the team, I think we're going to take some beating this season.
Johnson and Cameron were the biggest surprises for me. I've always been a fan of Johnson as an attacking player but have always considered him pretty hopeless as a defender. I can't remember him putting a foot wrong defensively, he was solid as a rock. He's going to be a real asset to us once he's fully fit. Cameron really was outstanding and looked completely untroubled against a striker that's just cost over £30m. A mention for Wollscheid too who looked assured and has clearly beefed up a bit over the summer.

I think we can be confident that at no point during the rest of this premier league season will we have a weaker 11 on the field than the 11 that finished yesterday's game. Liverpool just scraped a win due to a one-off goal from nowhere against our weakest possible team. Revenge? Bollocks, we'll murder them at their place if we go there with a fully fit team.

Cannot believe that the handball incident doesn't get a mention on sky match The Lovren elbow not discussed on motd either, was straight red and for the inept Taylor to book him suggests he actually saw it!
