Hey everyone! Just thought I'd tell you that I went to see Stoke City u-16s(I think it was u-16 and not u-17) play Norwich at the Icelandic national stadium yesterday afternoon. It was the final of the annual Rey Cup youth tournament here in Reykjavík, Iceland. Sadly, our boys went down to Norwich 1-0 but it was a close match and could've gone either way. Especially as Stoke were denied a clear penalty as they piled on the pressure in the closing minutes. The two players who I thought stood out were the goalkeeper and one of the center backs. Sorry, I don't know their names but they looked strong and confident all game. I hope to see Stoke City at the tournament again in coming years. Norwich have been taking part for a few years now and this year they used the tournament to take a look at three icelandic trialists. All the best from Iceland. Maybe I'll see some of you at the season opener. Geiri

Two high profile coaches were at the tournament. Norwich was managed by Darren Huckerby. And in Stoke's preliminary group there was a norwegian team called CFK and that featured Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager and his son as one of the players.

Good to see you still follow the mighty Potters Geiri! Hope you are well. PS - I might have been posting as Fornside (or even as Plympton Potter) when I last saw you as it was at one of the obpu's in the days when we had Icelandic owners.

I'm doing well, Lakeland. And I remember you quite well also.
You, Old Stokie, Smudge and many more made my trips to S-o-T very memorable and enjoyable. I haven't been able to fly out for a few years now but that will change this season.
Our friend Gudjon Thordarson can't even get a job managing in Iceland anymore. He's burned a few too many bridges I think. :-)

Great to see your name Geiri. I visited Iceland at the end of May and thought it was fantastic. Remember you from the OO games. You were a tough player. Good to know you're coming back soon.

In my case, I often get in Delilah's behind the Boothen stand before games - but I'm sure a lot of the Stoke based fans will be able to see you after the game over a pint or two. I thought your father owned an airline - so how come haven't been able to fly here for a few years?

Geiri, a bit of your local knowledge and help please. Now that I am officially a senior citizen, with lots of free time, it is my intention to make a trip over to Iceland, to hopefully catch the Northern Lights. Which is the best month to have the best chance of getting to see them? Many thanks.

I managed to find myself in the tunnel at the National Stadium in Reykjavik as the teams for a league match came on to the pitch once.
The player-manager of one of the sides (KA Akureyri) was Toddy Orlygsson. Sadly he dislocated his shoulder after 20 minutes, but a lovely stadium and was made to feel very welcome.
Later that day I went to the other side of town to see KR Reykjavik play!
