The quote below is from this article: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-33578778"Separately, the European Council approved the €7bn bridging loan for Greece from an EU-wide emergency fund. The loan was approved in principle by eurozone ministers on Thursday and now has the go-ahead from all non-euro states. It means Greece will now be able to repay debts to two of its creditors, the ECB and International Monetary Fund (IMF), due on Monday" It's like being in fairyland, since no one actually believes that the plan will work in reality , but are going along with it in an attemp to save the Euro experiment, not Greece. The UK is contributing almost €0.8b to the bailout ,even though we are not in the Eurozone, yet we have debts in the ratio of 550% to GDP apparently, the highest in the world. The Greek debt to GDP ratio is 177% ,according to the link below ( which gives some good insight imho) www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-32332221. Why would you continually give money away when you are in debt yourself? The money actually goes to pay the creditors not to help the Greeks. I believe that the UK is being ripped off again. I get the argument that we can afford the debt because we are much more economically viable , but don't think it is sensible to that degree. We might come a cropper one day.

Back to the OP. I believe that some argue that immigration ( in terms of free movement of all EU citizens) is a good thing. I cant see it mysel with the global turmoil and movement of refugees, and dodgy borders in Greece and Italy , who could then issue EU passports. The ONLY way to take back control of our borders is by leaving the EU. This is a fact. Incidentally not only is membership of the EU being questioned across all political parties , and outside the parties, it is also an issue across Europe. I'd rather keep away from the immigration issue, as it's been done to death, and has the potential to hijack the thread. Richie I agree entirely, immigration has been done to death, in terms of sheer numbers, the effect on culture and the economy. I would like to register the slightly different emphasis in my post on NATIONAL SECURITY. We might be looking back in 10 years time wishing that we were able to control the type of people that have EVERY RIGHT to be here under the present rules. It is generally accepted that the first reponsibility of Government is the protection of its people.

The pros are outweighed by the cons for me. The main con being the immigration issue and it's detrimental effects on this country

Thats one of the most interesting threads Ive read on this board in all the years its been running....genuinely mean that.
We've got some right clever people amongst our ranks
I always thought we were a right bunch of thickos but hey - you live and learn
I have absolutely no interest in politics BUT it has certainly opened my eyes to how countries manoeuvre and operate.

Incidentally not only is membership of the EU being questioned across all political parties , and outside the parties, it is also an issue across Europe. You've just highlighted a big problem in the EU: At the last EU elections Eurosceptic parties had massive gains. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-27559714Now, to normal people, that should have meant that the EU should have re-evaluated what it was doing, understand people concerns, and adapted. You know, listen to the people. What actually happened is the EU said we know best, stuck two fingers up and said you're having more of the medicine. And, yes I know, the Eurosceptics didn't win a majority, but it demonstrates that there are massive concerns throughout Europe with the current direction that it is being taken. If those concerns are ignored then the frustrations will grow. If people feel that the democratic process is not working, then we will have problems ahead.

I should take life more seriously but its too short... You claim to be a cynic - Im more of a realist
