I enjoyed that Thought we looked pretty good Tex came in to it which was encouraging Jol put himself a bit and I thought Oddie did not seem afraid to go in to a tackle New keeper was very good Muni excellent But Geoffrey was superb Shenton looked good and made some nice runs, but will need to bulk up a bit as pushed off too easily Arnie was excellent Sidders very solid Ireland was for me a bit hot and miss, especially in the final third Adam can hit a pass but looked knackered after 5 mins and was sloppy - but a bit of gametime and he will come good VG - liked his runs - shame he missed a pen but so what Shame did not see Diouf, Johnson or Moha Very enjoyable against a strong Everton side And to think we have Ryan, Pieters, Diouf, Whelan, Ryan, Wolly, Johnson and Moha to come in Still need a winger mind. Not sure about midfield as we could not fit them all on today? However, given our very makeshift back four that was a solid as we have looked for a while once Tex got over the nerves We share the exact same views then, mate. Well put.

Good performance, but, and still a big but for me, is the fact that we give the ball away far, far too easily! It needs addressing. Simple balls going no where near the player they are intended for. We won't keep on getting away with it, as we did today. Some pleasing performances though! Nail on the effing head mate... I alluded to this so many times during the game... Some of our players jst turnover the ball far to easy in the first 2/3 of the pitch (I don't mind the final third because you need to take risks). That is why I am a big fan of Ireland... He rarely gives the ball away , especially in dangerous positions... A number of our players are very sloppy in possession in general and today was no different

First game, players are rusty and a daft side through injuries that haven't really played together before. Players have got a bit of game time under their belts and will be better for it.

I still believe ( even though we've had two much improved seasons position wise), that we do give the ball away far too cheaply. We need to improve in that department IMHO. All in all I'm very happy with what's going on, but!

I am more concerned about the poor finishing because that was so often the case last season (not including Liverpool, obviously). As for Ireland, I thought he was constantly dispossessed and ducked out of responsibility.

On that performance today Geoff Cameron should get a start in the team .
I think he could do Whelans job quite easily. He made some fantastic tackles and blocks and looked extremely sharp .
Defensive midfielder not needed .

His movement down the right from the back where he past his man with massive pace then nutmegged the second Everton defender coming for help made me wonder why doesn't play RM more often... cracking athleticism he's got and he was all over at the back defensively for Wilson and Van Ginkel's little mishap at the death. Pub league player at best, never a footballer and getting sold this upcoming summer... A rested Cameron is something to behold, the USMNT can feck off if he's like that with rest.

Toss up between the keeper and GCam for MOTM I'd edge it to Haguaard, first real debut and was a great one for him.

Just watched the highlights and Haguaard was fantastic!!! Very impressive. Judging by that performance he shouldn't be sitting on the bench anywhere. Might be best to send him out on loan to Derby or someone similar if he's not going to be first choice here. Positives : good to see Shenton having a good game and not looking out of his depth. If Arnie can continue his form into the season then he will cause teams problems problems all day long. Sidwell played very well and is the sort of destroyer that we need, a solid spine to a midfield that has a lof of flair. Negatives : Still no real threat from set pieces, this is something we should really be working on in pre-season. Didn't get to see Bojan Who was it that gave the ball away in the 90th minute and basically almost gifted them a goal???

Geoff did look outstanding and was easily my MOTM, (though Haugaard gets a solid pat on the back too). Geoff was all over the pitch covering for other players, looked immense ( yes immense from a center half position) going forwards and his tackles were timed to perfection. It was a shame to lose on penalties, as I feel we could have had it tied up in the 90, excellent save from Howard against Ireland, if not a tad lucky. But as said, lots of positives and we looked fairly strong. The only negative point I can think of is Tex, yes he did improve, but he looked a million miles away from being anywhere near our first team in that first half. I understand his competitive game time has been limited, so maybe a loan would be best to give him some confidence and match sharpness.

Tex comes across as a very old fashioned centre half, in that he lacks the agility to turn quickly which means at left back he was very exposed. Who knows, at centre half he might have looked better?

On that performance (albeit in a pre-season friendly) you could argue that Cameron should/could start alongside Ryan, although where that would leave Muni I don't know. Maybe Geoff could be a solution/alternative to Whelan. His anticipation, his interceptions and athleticism could give us added impetus in midfield.

He had a good game against strong Everton line up imo. I am concerned re Ryan's injury situation . Cameron's experience at cb makes him the best option from our current squad
