FA has said that even though FIFA have given written assurances that a Team GB would not jeopardise home nation autonomy, they cannot get agreement from the other counties to participate, especially the Jockanese

I hope lots of other countries decide not to send a team. Football and tennis for that matter have well established other tournaments and in my opinion are not beneficial to the Olympics

The Scots, Welsh and Irish have never been happy about the concept of a GB team. We haven't sent one for years other than the one for the London Olympics - and that didn't include Scots.
What I find odd is that the Scots refuse to countenance a GB Olympic team in case it puts their independence at risk - yet Rangers and Celtic want to play in the English Premier League - weird!

We should send a team anyway even if the Jocks do not want to partake, it's decent international experience for young players in a tournament where there are no expectations and it's held in one of the most prestigious footballing countries in the world.

Olympics an amateur competition? OK, there is no prize money at the Olympics themselves but most participants in many of the sports are professionals. Do you think that Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah are paid job seekers allowance?

It's more to do with the fact that it would be very hard to see a scots player make the team I'm old enough to remember when 3 or 4 Scots (sometimes more!) would have made a GB team as would Welsh players like John Charles and of course George Best of Northern Ireland. But those countries were against a GB team in those days as well.

It lost all credibility for me when the multi millionaire basket ball team from USA took part, I remember when athletics was truly amateur and even the sprinters did not get appearance money, but I guess when the big sponsors get involved the genie is out of the bottle. For me Olympics should be Swimming, Boxing, Track & Field, gymnastics only. Golf FFS. Football FFS. Tennis FFS. Bowls FFS.

I agree mate the "Dream Team" from the US was just daft there are some silly stuff you can win Gold for now. Takes the "special" out of it an Olympic champion was something special not now any bugger can win one for anything

There's plenty of other sports that historically have a place in the Olympics - including wrestling andmodern pentathlon.

It is virtually a crime that it is not in, bring it on!
