Interesting to see which way Hughes goes.
Can only think it'll ultimately be Given?
He's obviously here as the No.2 keeper, has a long relationship with Hughes and O'Neill is now dangling the No.1 role in the Euros in front of him if he gets some games in..

Butland just had three screws inserted in his foot, given before injury was No2 Fuck off spinks. Hardly a shock

A little bit unprofessional? for Martin O'Neill to say that Given needs match time to be in line for a International return.
I accept that he is the more experienced keeper, is here as the main back up to Jack, but Hughes selects the team at Stoke
Maybe the lack of Ryan in defence will mean that Hughes goes with Shay - but Haugaard may have the more match fitness at the moment.
Let's hope that 'Stoke scoring plenty of goals" is the main talking point come Saturday evening, rather than which GK was selected.

On balance id play given. Harsh on the young lad but experience is important at this stage. But only if he's 100%

It will be an interesting call. Part of me wants to see whether the young keeper is ready for the number 2 role next season, with Given having, at best, only another year in him at this level.
But we still have a significant chunk of the season to go and experience might be key.
It would be good to go into next season with the same group of goalkeepers, so keeping Given sweet might come into the equation. Give Haugaard more game time in the cups next year, if he keeps improving.

I think Given has the gloves, but can definitely lose them to Haugaard. Wouldn't be,surprised if, even if Given is doing well Hughes has a chat with MON to explain he will play Haugaard in last couple of games to give him experience

It should come down to who is best for us sod internationals and i think that is given. I reckon hauggard is likely to be patient for a while and play in cups etc. And be number one if jack gets poached in a year or two

I couldn't give a flying sh*t what O'Neil or, indeed, what any other international manager wanted. Hughes needs to do what's right and best for Stoke. For me, he should go with Haugaard, as I would be very suspicious of Given's fitness and fragility after the way he got injured and how long it's taken him to recover. Haugaard has to be given an opportunity to prove himself in the Prem, otherwise what was the point in signing him.

Has to be Haugaard.
No other decision makes sense for the club in the long run.

Given's contracted for next season too, isn't he?
IF he's fit, I don't think there'll be a decision to make in Hughes' mind. Right or wrong, I think it'll be Given.

He is but I'd like to think that the younger prospect who's spent nearly half the season on the bench trusted to come on if Butland say fractured his ankle would be given he chance to shine. It's going to be Given isn't it? I really do think that stinks though.

Yeah great for the club that we've developed a reserve keeper...

We need to blood someone to fill in when Butland is injured or for he cups. In the long run that is Haugaard. To rely solely on Butland would be idiocy.

I'd love the last one to be proven wrong because he's out best attacker. Obviously I'd love for us to get in Europe too but I really do think that ship sailed.

Well with an attitude like that, we may as well just drop Imbula Shaqiri and co now so their reserves can get a look in before we inevitably sell them at some point.
