I've just realised I don't actually know who that famous goal was officially attributed to. A minute or two googling hasn't helped either, some sources have it as JOC, some as Souleymane... anyone know?

Remember that back then we weren't under the power of any dubious goals committee so I suppose it was up to the club to decide. Seeing as he got the last touch it has to be Oulare, surely?

The first goal was more of a mental - just ran around in circles as the terrace was half empty. Fortune-West missing an absolute sitter right in front of us. Mr G coming to the fence at the end of the game waving his arms about. Then looking outside at hundreds of psychotic taffs trying to bash riot police/a gate down so they could kill us! Fun times

One of our finest ever moments of the last 50 years. My lad bought both Super James's shirt and Oulare's shirt when they auctioned them off after that epic. He has them safely tucked away amongst his SCFC momentos.
OS.

Fun times I could hardly speak after that first goal and when the second went in I started to make sounds I didn't even know were possible from within the human body. That sort of sheer physical and mental release hadn't been experienced on the same level, before or since, and my first game was in 1970.

I remember very little about the game (not pissed, I'd driven from London and caught the bus from Bristol). The goals are hazy and only helped by the replays on You Tube. I do remember Men of Harlech pre match and the announcer on 89 minutes..."will supporters please stay off the pitch....Sam Hamman and they boys will be doing a lap of honour after the game" A monumental night in the grand scheme of things. Thankfully the final was an anti-climax and we could all enjoy the weekend.

was it Iwelumo who hit a shot STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR from 1 yard? Of course. Cutler's save from Thorney was a key moment too…it seemed to fall onto the line in slow motion and just stop!

was it Iwelumo who hit a shot STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR from 1 yard? As a side note, old 'deadeye' Chris did exactly the same thing against Westerloo in Belgium in 2003 ( I think).....went straight over the stand roof where we were standing, and we were like "yee...HUH????"

Its a great regret of mine I never went the away game I worked at the club at the time on matchdays so had a ticket available ,but due too my real job commitments couldn't go listened on the radio grimacing at every kick both ends. Following on from this had to miss the final as well due to booking a holiday twelve months before and flying two hours after the game finished, as my darling wife pointed out win or lose I wasn't getting on a plane with her and the kids pissed with either joy or despair,or staying to watch extra time and penalties and missing the flight completely. This meant that my father got a free ticket for that and I got a pissed up running commentary. As for oulare met him when he first signed he was built like a brick ahithouse in the flesh and when found out he had been downed with that blood clot was a big shock to think such a big fit guy had been so close to snuffing it,anyway rambles over he or his arse which ever will be a stoke legend on par with some of our greats for some of us and that's a strange thought. Also would like us have a look at his son seems like he has potential .

That outside-of-the-boot volley (against Millwall I think) though, spoogeriffic. At three minutes on this:

You'd have to be very careful that it was mud though, and not the consequences of a rather unfortunate accident from being a little too caught up in the excitement.

There was a meet the players evening soon after oulare joined. I remember someone posting on the oatcake that evening that even without much English, Oulare had been a nice bloke, but the fact he was spitting up blood was a bit worrying! Later that evening he was rushed to hospital and the rest is history.

I wonder what he is doing today? Not sure, but his son Obbi is highly rated and is playing in the Belgian top flight with Club Brugge. He's also been capped at Under 21 level for Belgium.

Sam Hamman clapping the Stoke fans at the end after we'd been giving him "Sammy Sammy how's your car" after it got smashed up in the first leg.
