Don't forget the 17 year old lost his mother only a few months ago. Bringing him on for those minutes probably gave him and his family a massive boost (Class action by Mark Hughes). He then needed some time to settle down. He's got time and I believe a professional set-up in which we should have some faith and trust in. Given the personal situation sending him the other end of the country (Barnsley) is not something he needs (or anyone to be fair)

Given the personal situation sending him the other end of the country (Barnsley) is not something he needs (or anyone to be fair) Quite apart from the fact that Barnsley is little more than an hour from here (hardly the other end of the country) the suggestion I made was Crewe. He probably lives as close (if not closer) to them than Stoke and they are a club that know exactly how to handle young talent. However, he is still 17 and it's probably best he stays in his current environment for the time being but I'm certain he will have to go out on loan to gain competitive match experience at football league level at some stage. You can't get that kind of experience by mingling with star players in training, however useful that might be and he'll find it difficult to break into Stoke's first team squad on a regular basis until he's experienced 'full-bodied' league football.

I'd rather he got used to the prem with a couple of sub appearances a season than get lumped into the lower leagues on loan, then have to adapt again when he returns He won't improve not playing games or sitting on the bench. Get him out on loan for a few months,it's a no brainer I feel that training with players like the quality in our first team and playing the odd game will be better for him than training with what would most likely be a league 2/conference team, and playing in much lower level football, which is much much different to the premier league.

As said he needs games, he'll learn next to nothing without them, training with anyone only helps so much, chuck him in the Prem when he's not ready will do his confidence no good at all.

Depends on whether MH sees him as ready for sub prem appearances I suppose. If not, you're probably right, but i still think he can learn a lot from training with the 1sts
