Linked with loads of players but are any of them interested in Stoke or are we just a name to boost the price with other teams??

We could probably get 95% of any pro footballer in the world if we wanted to.
It's the top 5% that are a bit picky....

The players that would immediately jump at the chance of signing for us are usually crap players as they aren't being chased by bigger clubs.
This is what happens as you develop as a club. Deals become harder to complete.

Not just us. Big clubs like man Utd still struggling / haven't got any big players in.

We're aiming to attract players who are a step up from our level (otherwise we'd never improve).
Therefore it goes without saying there's going to be more 'misses' than 'hits'.

It certainly seems that by the time this window shuts we will have one of the best 'what might have been' squads in the country. Let's hope God really does love a 'trier' !

Badu seems pretty keen, with his agent posting pictures from Clayton Wood. Almost get the impression he's keener than Stoke are at the moment, as it's gone quiet.

We rely on Les. Worries me. Players coming in want big bucks. Probably rightly so if we want to progress above 9th. But we've always had quality to get us to where we are and we need to reward it

I don't mind us chasing rainbows, you might occasionally land that pot of gold, the question is, is anyone picking up the shit from behind the rainbow chasing cart and doing some real work?

Why should we be anyone's first choice? Any player anywhere in the world would rather sign for Real Madrid or Barca wouldn't they? Equally, which of our players are our first choice? Would we have bought Arnie if we could have got Ronaldo?
I don't get this need for the player to want to play for Stoke. We get the best players we can, but they're not the best in the world. The players get the best club they can, but unless they're a very top player, they're going to have to settle for something less than the Champions League winners.
From this point of view, no one wants to go to Liverpool or Spurs or Arsenal, but at some point each player has to settle for the best club he can. Why should any player we're after need to love us from the bottom of their heart? It ain't going to happen. Accept where we are in the pecking order and rejoice in the fact that none of us ever, ever thought we'd be where we are.

You don't think the transfer strategy is agreed with the owners and the manager? I think the team's strategy has been well set. Ireland, Arnie, Bojan, Diouf. Quality players who lost form or fell away from the spotlight. Build them up in a team that can make the most of their abilities. Hughes is a players coach, and brings the best out of them.

There's only one strategy. 12" Monday to Wednesday then stepping it up to a 14" Goliath at the weekend.
They're doing a great job.

100% of players want to sign for Stoke if you give them the right amount of money. It`s all about money.

100% of players want to sign for Stoke if you give them the right amount of money. It`s all about money. ...but it's not all about money is it. If it was Konoplyanka would have signed by now. For some players it's undoubtedly about the money, but others, it's about location, winning trophies, feeling wanted, playing football, keeping the Mrs happy, not making the kids move schools,... The money is very important to most players, but to make it the only factor for all is quite frankly rubbish.

I'd rather we kept our targets under the radar and just announce them once we have signed them. We could insist on a confidentiality clause when conducting negotiations and MAYBE we might get some signings instead of sparking the interest of others.

Virtually impossible to keep these sorts of deals under wraps. I actually think that the club like it that we are linked with these kind of players - good publicity. It will become an issue IF we don't sign any of the feckers.
