T20 - not everyone's cup of tea - but until the Tests resume it'll have to do.
I'm just watching the Caribbean Premier League on BT Sports - and the contrast to the earlier T20 (Durham vs. Lancashire) is just massive.
One's got a full ground, while at Durham half the stands weren't even open. One has the feel of top cricketers playing 20-20, while we have county sides playing a slog fest.
Our 20-20 cricket is way behind the CPL. The CPL is way behind the Big Bash. The Big Bash is way behind the IPL.
We need to sort 20-20 cricket in this country fast. Not only so we can benefit from it at an international level, but so we can bring far more people into cricket.

The counties wont allow it though will they? For T20 to take off here like elsewhere we need to ditch Durham v Somerset & get a new league set-up of something like Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, London North, London South etc... But they then need some money behind them to attract the world stars over. It wont happen though 'cos the Counties will shit it that they'll get 'rubbed off the map'.

Not only so we can benefit from it at an international level, but so we can bring far more people into cricket. Great news about full houses in the Windies. If T20 can help in the decline of cricket over there as both a playing force and a spectator sport it will be doing a good job. While its great to see so many England fans there when we are on tour, it's sad to see so many seats empty that local folk should be filling. A mixture of apathy and cost is of course the reason which is a toxic combination for the future of high quality cricket in the Carribean. As for over here - would Newcastle v Manchester be a bigger draw than Durham v Lancashire. I'm not sure. For example I support Lancashire - I'd find it very hard to support Manchester! Franchise cricket could disenfranchise a lot of cricket followers. What they need, most of all, are star players on show. For example, Jos Butler would have got more folk through the gate. Tonight might be a good "test" of T20 - Lancashire at home against Birmingham (Warwickhire). Butler in for Lancs (hopefully), McCullum for the Brummies. Edit - no Butler. Guess he's on that pre-Ashes training camp? Edit #2 - Lancashire are shit!
