I don't understand how a club like West Ham who have huge amounts of debt (supposedly) are able to continue signing players on huge wages? Bizarre.

Renting the Olympic stadium for next to nothing must have given their coffers a boost

He strikes me as a player who put on shit loads of weight when he stops playing.

He signed this morning apparently. A French international with most assists in France last season. £10.7m rising to £12m if he scores the winning goal in the CL final for us!! Wouldn't be like Sky to twist the numbers would it?
OM didn't want to sell that was clear - but money, money, money, made it impossible to turn down. OM are whining to placate their fans and manager but the state of their finances is appalling.
He's not on bonkers money either (relative) £60Kpw - how he'll turn out in the PL for us I don't know - but he should improve us.

Renting the Olympic stadium for next to nothing must have given their coffers a boost They're factoring the increased revenue from the Olympic Stadium.

Mind you, getting that tasty new stadium funded by me must have helped no end?

I presume that the sale of the Boleyn Ground will bring in £millions? With a bit of luck, there's somewhere that states the sale of the Boleyn Ground should go towards public funds seeing as they've been given this ground for free. Hopefully they'll build a shopping centre on it. All the riff raff can pop into Primark knowing they're buying a pair of 5 quid jeans where Trevor "Not Influencing the FA" Brooking once scored.

Reading that, it's difficult to understand how this isn't a case of 'tapping up', which is surely still against ze rules?

Metalhead - I tried to resist biting but can't help myself Sir Trevor's power to influence the location of the 2012 Olympics is legendary - but Why should WHU pay anything other than rent and utility costs for a stadium they're renting but wasn't fit for purpose? The Boleyn site is sold - to be flats and gardens with ground-level retail. Sales proceeds to clear toxic debt - a contractual requirement of the move which will have taken nearly a decade from first discussions to moving in.

And overnight it turns into a more appealing place to be!

I think he'll be a good signing,we are in a good state at the moment financially, but were in the shit not too long ago so I don't feel we should be having a dig at others.Who knows where we might be in the next five years.

The insane Sky money is putting a huge distortion into the market. No offence to Stoke or WH but neither are top 20 European clubs but are able to outspend those that are!! Song should also sign today for £5m.

The thing that annoys me most of all, is that no matter what clubs like our's do, we cannot match the likes of the big six. Somewhere along the line, this has to be changed! Do not care how or when. As for us, we need to be matching or even outbidding those around us. The table shows that we have been the best Midlands team for a couple of years now, and I would like it to stay that way for a while!
