Bigger club but I feel he'd have been better off staying in the championship

Undoubtedly more potential in Rangers than Brentford, even if Brentford could probably put one over on Rangers at the moment.
If (and it's a big if at the moment) they can sort their shit out Rangers are one of the biggest clubs in Britain, who could be playing European football in the not too distant future. Unfortunately for Warburton most of the shit to sort is out of his hands, but he's not averse to unusual situations such as swapping from a bank manager to becoming a football manager and being given your notice while closing in on a second successive promotion.

He shouldn't really fail at Rangers either, he'll get them promoted this season and then he will probably be in a position to challenge Celtic for the title. If he does get promoted then someone back in England might try and bring him back but I'd imagine he'd want the chance to compete in Europe so might have a few seasons at Rangers, as RRP says above.

Rangers wont be challenging for a title for at least another 5 years I don't know - I think once they get up Ashley and co might back them a bit. Celtic should be able to win it at a canter the first season or two once they're back but I reckon Rangers may well be the ones finishing 2nd behind them.

I like Warburton, but I'm not sure if this will do his career any favours. I've always thought that managing Celtic or Rangers is a bit of a poisoned chalice.
I think it shows club owners' opinions of Scottish football when you look at Neil Lennon, who won the Scottish league three years on the trot along with two Scottish cups, and all he could get down here was a job managing Bolton in the Championship. I assume that his successes were tainted by the fact that it's currently such a one horse race up there.
It's a similar pattern if you look at the recent history of Celtic and Rangers managers. Not one Celtic or Rangers manager - since Dalglish left Celtic in 2000 - has gone on to manage a bigger club in England. It's sad, but I don't think it'll change any time soon.

Definately a step up considering he was unemployed.

I thought Ashley was asking for his loan back ? Rangers are a big club, it's a big step I hope he can handle it.

You could put a Rangers scarf of a dog and stick him in the dug out next season and he'd get them promoted and the season after that Top 3 would be nailed on and with it entry to the Europa Cup. Champs League possibilities beyond that.
Chuck in 50,000 rabid Glaswegians on match day and it would have to be a step up from pissing under the M4 flyover in Brentford.

Yes, but it's just been breaking news on SSn that the Rangers board have voted against him having it back immediately A bit odd that - with so much bile directed at Ashley you'd have thought the club would have taken this early opportunity to distance themselves from him and restore to the club all the assets Ashely got as security on the loan; things like their crest and name(!) as well control of a number of properties the club owns. The suspicion is the cash that the new owners promised is maybe not so forthcoming. Not the first time in recent years Rangers have had owners who promised great riches only to disappoint. Disappoint Rangers fan that is. The rest of Scottish football continues to enjoy the show that just keeps giving.
