I'm concerned about our ability to hang on to the good players we already have. Begovic, N'Zonzi and Huth were the rocks on which we stood, they were Stoke City. If we were really to lose these 3 then I'd like to think more energy will go in to adequately replacing them and less in to throwing the kitchen sink at an unproven Ukrainian left winger. The manager clearly didn't want Huth, if he did he would have stayed. We were always going to lose Bego, it was inevitable. Bojan will go the same way if he does well, it's how we have to operate. Agreed re Konoplianka!

Yes we do need to be concerned. Not anxious. Our future is quality youth. New ability players into the u21s.To feed the first team in the future and Who ever we can attract over the next few transfer windows. As our mature players, in time, move on. A new era with quality younger players and a very capable Mark Hughes and co. The concern is who can we attract ? Looking at the ability of our existing under 27 years olds, we will be fine.

You only have to look at the example of Southampton last season to see that we're not alone when it comes to heads being turned and bigger clubs showing interest in quality players. It hasn't harmed them and it won't harm us. And bigger clubs than Southampton haven't been able to hang on to their players. If Liverpool are losing their top players then what hope have we got?

I think concerns are valid. There's plenty of time left but we enter July and we're weaker in goal, weaker at the back, about to get massively weaker in midfield and possibly slightly stronger up front.
Less than 40 days to go to kick off and we seem to be hanging our hat exclusively on players who don't want to come here.
Not time for panic but concerns are most definitely warranted.

We just need the big boys to finish at the table so we can get the scraps and wait for a few apples to fall. Hughesy could bring a bus load of players in but they wouldnt be any better than we already have, blown out of the water repeat to fade! It used to be good enough for you Momo! H :)

H The way we conduct transfers has never been good enough for me. We are naive and seemingly never learn. There is one constant in that set up. He's on holiday, I think.

Yes, all very true. I guess it is the specifics that make me uneasy as Sheikh said in the next post: The job of replacing Huth is believed to have been done but I think it leaves us weaker, all possible combinations of keepers I have seen muted on here are less good than Begovic/Butland and as for replacing N'Zonzi I haven't seen any realistic alternatives suggested that are even remotely in his league. For a team outside of the Top 7 or whatever it is these days where there is inevitably a lot of defending to do and a desperate need to keep the ball when you do get it then these are the pivotal positions for that. Note to self 'STAY CALM'
