I'm convinced it was a stunt by both us and him to put us both in the shop window. SSN covered the whole thing almost live You also have to think about the training ground back then as well, we had double stacked porter cabins as the HQ with fans standing 2 foot away, we really were not ready to offer that class of player the everyday working environment to work in. Everything is different now, we have a 1st class training (everyday working environment) ground with top class food service, gym and medical departments. Back then our facilities were still league 1 at best. When you add to that, we are now an established top 10 club with a solid and sometimes spectacular squad then we are a completely different proposition!!

Our front 3 seems to involve a right footed winger on the left, a centre forward and a right sided striker.
Remy would surely be lined up for the right sided role currently occupied by SJW and Odem.

How can I put this in a very simple way. There is more chance of the pope siding with IS than this happening

If he does ever rock up at Clayton Woods again, we better ensure that the full-on Walking Dead contingent aren't there to meet & greet this time.
To be fair to the lad (with the huge caveat that I still think he's a right bounder for stringing us along just for a free ride in a private jet) I think I'd be having second thoughts if I found that lot on my red carpet.
Euw. I've always wondered what actually was the truth behind him 'stringing us along'? Is it not possible that Scholes was sent over there with a private jet and told to do whatever it takes to get him here? On realising that his reception wasn't as warm as he was hoping, couldn't have Scholes said to Remy and his agent, "look at the very least, why don't you come over and have a look around and we'll have you back home before the day is out - what have you got to lose?" Scholes was hoping that by getting him over here we could increase the charm offensive and Remy himself thought heck - indeed what have I got to lose? Not saying this is what happened but I did wonder at the time if it might be a plausible theory? Could well be Paul.
Albeit I have again cast him as the 'stringer-a-longer' here (it allowed us all to off set our disappointment with sheer hatred at the time I would suggest), you may well be right.
But whoever was in the jet's (metaphorical) driving seat back then, it all must have all crashed and burned (again, metaphorically) when he and his slimey toad of an agent met the reception committee.
Sadly, it must have left the pair of them with an indelible impression of good old S-o-T. And not in a good way.
That said, if he fits the archetype of the modern mercenary footballer (which I'm sure he does), that's nothing that, what, seventy big a week (?) couldn't miraculously cure in an instant.
And hypocrite that I am, I would also put aside any residual enmity as soon as he banged in his first hat trick for us.

Yes I think so, several of tomorrows papers saying an £8 million move to West Ham as Billic' first dip in to his £25 million transfer pot.

Not sure where West Ham would play him unless they're selling him. What's more interesting is who's signing there players, it certainly doesn't seem to be there current or ex manager.

I think having a restrictive transfer policy is OK! We haven't done too badly the last couple of season despite having this kind of transfer policy! I'm not sure I would like to see us spend crazy money again as I don't think we are very far off being a top six candidate as we stand right now. At least one winger must be brought in though!

Not saying this is what happened but I did wonder at the time if it might be a plausible theory? I think this is basically what happened. In an ideal world, I suppose it wouldn't have leaked to the Oatcake/Sky and nobody would have been any the wiser about it happening at all. No criticism of Remy here at all - in fact, he had some nice things to say about us and our facilities when he moved to wherever it was.

It is complete guesswork, we'd been linked with Obiang and if were were in for him then it seems he has escaped us. The reason I said seems is that the players we are currently linked with have stronger links with other clubs seemingly i.e. Kono and Cedric. I'm not shitting myself I just think Remy would be an awesome signing

Scholes and Cartwright (I think) were spotted at a Sampdoria game and some of the press decided it was Obiang we were after. Nothing much happened after that unlike the interest we have had in Konoplyanka and Soares which has been all over the European and UK media for weeks. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if our alleged interest in Obiang prompted Wet Sham to buy him - that looks to be their way of operating.
