That £25m fee for Lallana is looking increasingly head-scratching as it's revealed how unimportant to the Southampton thing he actually was and you examine his lack of consistent pedigree.
Oh, and actually watch him play football.

I think the England team look OK, but the point is there is no wow factor about this team! Is there really a star player in there? Rooney was one a couple of years ago, but he has faded a bit too the last couple of seasons. Not hard to understand why this team won't dominate in any WC or in the Euros! An average team with average players I'm afraid!

I still can't get my head around how we didn't win anything back in the early 2000s with the likes of beckham, scholes, Cole, neville and co. Tactical incompetence. We had one of the best midfielders in the world who could dictate play, paul Scholes who retired because he was disgracefully played in the flank positions.we have alwys had clueless managers. To be honest the only manager ive rated since 2000 is Sven, he was good!

Which is all the more reason to get behind them. Instead of turning our backs on em like many seem to have done, disgracefully. I've tried, but I can't bring myself to give a flying fuck about them. That Ok with you? Not really mate no. Not that it matters to you one iota what I think. We are talking about our countries football team here, any football fan should always want his or hers national team to win regardless of whether they agree with the managers decisions or whether they like the players or not. That's how being a football is,isn't it? I'm pretty sure that we were all still Stoke fans weren't we when we were shit, with utter tossers in the side like Ally Pickering?

Surprised it's on there in the U.S. too. Both teams pretty flat. Whelan solid though.

Jordan Henderson-what purpose does this useless bellend serve on a football field? Those cheap aftershaved portly journo's who gather around a croissant on a Sunday morning on Sky will tell you that he's the best young English mifielder around. Except for the four days a season Jack Wilshere isn't injured then they'll tell you he's the best young English mifielder around.

Oh, and actually watch him play football. I like Lallana and think he is one of the better Lpool players, but I agree he is not worth nowhere near to £25M! Yeah - he's not a bad player at all. Neat, tidy and more graceful on the ball than most English players. But all English players get hyped to a level completely out of keeping with their ability. As you say, can't see that special player emerging for a while. It'll be interesting to see how Kane does next year. Sterling seems to be revealing himself as a SWP/Lennon-type who lacks that bit of cleverness, but he's only young and he may yet grow into something. When Wilshere first burst on the scene in about 2011, he looked like something special, but he's really regressed too.

Do you support all the English teams in Europe when they're playing in the Europa / Champions League? I take very little interest in international football in general, not just England. These friendlies might as well be the lawn bowls championships for the amount of entertainment that's on show. I've tried to care about England, I really have. I'm not arsed if the team is full of arseholes (there's one or two in the Stoke side if we're honest.) They just don't ignite a fire in me like Stoke can, I'm completely ambivalent towards them.

I do love Paul Scholes, still one of the best players I have ever seen play live, first season I think at the Brit, he played deep and he was hitting balls 60 + yards to feet. He's a decent pundit too. Best English player of a generation.

You're going to have to explain that one mate. You actually think the players give a fuck? About what? The supporters? Probably not deep down, but that accusation can be levelled at the majority of premier league players in this day and age, including many of the Stoke squad who we follow week in week out. Should we stop supporting them on that basis then?

England are appalling. The under 21s actually show promise but the senior squad is poisonous.

Dont get the wilshire slagging off. Not a likeable lad for most people but undoubtedly got class. Unlike phil jones Yeah I'm with this when it comes to playing for England. By all accounts Ricardo Fuller was an absolute cock but there's no doubting his ability and legend status for Stoke. Same with Sterling, when he plays for England I'll support him and hope he uses his undoubted ability to benefit the country. However when he plays against Stoke, dogs abuse.

Some on the Champions League final thread last night were complaining that the game was boring!! Compared to last night's game, this is like watching two Sunday morning pub teams. The lack of quality is truly frightening.

That first question is utterly ridiculous and has nothing to do with what we're discussing whatsoever. And the answer is obviously no because they aren't my team. I'm English so by default my national team is England,so as a fan of football, everytime England play I want them to win. To be honest I was originally digging out the people who were shouting come on Ireland, which is a bit different and much more treacherous than you just not being arsed
