It is hard to imagine that there has been a more ill-timed film release in the history of moving pictures!

We live in a world of marketing.
It has consumed politics, sport and every other realm of our society. Totally divorced from reality.
A world devoid of traditional human values promoted by the relentless surge of capitalism.
Its vacuous and often bordering on the absurd. This is a prize example.

It's getting serialised and is to be shown as episodes before each Premier League game, next season. The FA and Premier League tried to stop this from taking place, but FIFA insisted. It will be interesting to see if the decision to show it will be reversed, due to recent events.

Absolutely no defence of FIFA, or this film, but two of the 19 ridiculous moments concern upper class English officials having racist attitudes. Does anybody really believe that is not credible?

While that is likely not so far from the truth, at that time I would suggest that was the European norm. The French and Germans have hardly been shining beacons of race relations through most of the 20th Century. The point is that FIFA & Blatter are being portrayed as crusaders for righteousness, while the hated English are evil caricatures. This is the same Sepp Blatter who thinks Women's football should be a form of soft porn, while extreme racist abuse at a football match should be brushed off & settled with a handshake.

I don't think I made any defence of 1) Blatter 2) FIFA 3) German racial attitudes 4) French racial attitudes The thread highlighted 19 ridiculous moments, just an observation that two were not that ridiculous.

It seems a tad hypocritical of the film to have foreigners broadly described as savages by top hatted, monocle wearing Englishmen who represent every single person in England.

The whole thing is preposterous. It was intended to feed Blatter's fevered ego. It was ludicrous even before events of the last 10 days.

I think that they should lock Tim Roth up with Jack Warner for making such a poor career choice.

"I'd watch a movie about how Tim Roth and Sam Neill ended up in United Passions before I'd watch United Passions" This made me laugh
