As a club even if we were to finish a couple of places and points below this seasons fantastic effort but win a cup this would be progress in my eyes.It was no accident that in the early 70s that we had good cup runs it was because we were a excellent team who on our day could beat anyone.I truly believe mark is getting a SQUAD together that can do this,it also would greatly improve are chances of course if man city Chelsea arse ect were to play each other in the early rounds.

In the cups you need a huge slice of luck with the draw. Both the FA Cup and the League Cup has still been dominated by the big 6 clubs. In fact in the last 10 years 16 out of the last 20 titles have been won by the big clubs merely underlying their dominance in all competitions.

Whitbread Trophy: "The pint that thinks its a quart" - strap line from the early 1970's. I preferred Joules Stone Ale / Royal Ale.

Go back to your homes and prepare for silverware. Was prepared in 71/72 but Arsenal intervened... LC apart!

Very true ...hence the almighty bang this season as the Blackburn game brought us all back down to earth Our best shot may be the League Cup , although even that limits the chances of the lesser teams with a two leg semi final .... I'll leave it to your particular stand point ,readers, whether you see a two leg semi final to our advantage or detriment

As someone has pointed out above, unless you're one of the big six teams in the country you require some luck to make it to a final let alone win a trophy.
All we can do is keep giving ourselves a chance to be a benefactor of some good luck, by consistently getting to quarterfinals and semifinals.

If we sign the players that we are linked with and maybe a striker then we'll be pushing that top 6, maybe like Southampton this season with a chance of top 4 but maybe not quite getting there. Maybe a cheeky League Cup too.

We all know to win a trophy, eventually we have to beat a team from the top 4 because one of them will be in the semi if not the final. Our exploits of 2011 are testament to that.
I think we can lift a trophy within the next 2-3 years and hopefully it is the FA Cup but the Milk Tray, League Cup whatever its called will suffice as well. In fact I wouold go as far to say I would bet anyones house on it (no not mine yours)

I think the League Cup could be a good one to target for Stoke. You played my team Spurs off the pitch twice and we reached the final. I honestly believe Hughes is building an excellent Stoke side who on their day can trouble all Prem sides.

We've been at this fucker for the thick end of 150 years and we've won the best part of stuff all, we all like to believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden but I can't see it, I honestly can't.

Being positive (for a change) we might - and there have been very few seasons that I could say that without people thinking there was something wrong with me (more wrong than usual anyway).
Going back to my normal pessimistic self; we won't. The cups are usually won by the big teams and there are probably another dozen teams who legitimately fall in the 'might win it' category. So I'd say the odds are something like 25-1. Still it's not long ago you could have stuck a couple of zeros onto those odds and anyone who took the bet would still have been a hopelessly optimistic idiot.

steady now. Any finish between 7th and 10th in the league plus an extended run in one of the cups would be absolutely brilliant.

we need to keep players like our Huth Bardsley and Adam for those physical ,kick and run games and that not always the ball.Bojan injured verses rochdale . 4-1 loss verses Blackburn.A balanced team is needed .With luck and our ability i know a trophy is in our capability.

The important thing is that we go out and try,Mae have to treat the cup games the same as league games, home or away, we have to give ourselves a fighting chance, (Elwood Park is a distant memory)
