Loveless is one of the most overrated albums ever - definitely a touch of the Emperor's new clothes I think. Surprising it's so revered when there's so much better MBV stuff either side. Touching the Emporor's cloth more like. I try to love it but it's a band down the rabbit hole. Isn't this the album that killed Creation Records? 3 years in the studio...pfft.

Killed them financially but then Oasis rescued them. You'd believe McGee allowed/pushed Oasis to make cash from trad rock after pouring money away over Loveless.

'Isn't Anything' is woss. Funnily enough I think MBV is something I'd like to see live. You can easily punch a hole through my Shoegazer Denial. Stuff mentioned above like Loop and Spacemen3 and such is quality. You can't knock Liz Frazer, the High Fringess of Shoegazery. I reckon it was 'Primitive Painters' by her and Felt that kicked folk off into dancefloor footwear inspection. I came across the 'new' Ride stuff and it got me thinking that as a niche/genre/whatever Shoegazing hadn't endured. The original music didn't time travel particularly well. But it's a nonsense really, I've seen {and enjoyed} The XX, Glasvegas, Sigur Ros and such. It's still there if you care to search. Look, there's a family of them.... see Dad on drums, he's lost the curtains but still knows where to look.

Felt. Got this 12" somewhere...embryonic Shoegazing, I bet that singer regrets putting that hat on that day back in 1985.

Sounds terrible through the tinny tannoy of me computer. But it is a bit lame anynow. A bad hat was the least of Lawrence's issues. Felt were interesting, Cherry Red records. Named after t'Groundhogs song {of the same name.} The 'Pillows & Prayers' Compilation 99p. Where I first heard Kevin Coyne's genius. And I never realised he did TOGWT. Off to have a look at Flash's post.

This what all those early shoegazing bands were aspiring too. The daddy, I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this. Garlands was a gamechanger, and this is the best tune off that particular album.
It also has thunderous bass, so well worth putting the audio through your main system. Right, tomorrow i'm going to dust down my Naim Nait Mk.1 amp, KEF Concerto II floorstanders (with 2 x 10m of Naim cable) and me old Revolver Turntable (with Linn Itok arm and Nagaoka MP-11 Boron cartridge) just for this.

Spacemen 3 were quality. You can't fake that shit and plenty of bands died trying.

Amen to that. I'm with Cheeez on Kevin Shields flappy art-shite production ideas too. I like the way Steve Albini does it. No-one better. And i've been itching to drop this absolute belter in for weeks somewhere appropriate. Genius. Genius. You can't compare MBV and Shellac! I'm a big fan of the Albini way but all that stuff is on a different planet. Definitely NOT appropriate to post Prayer To God in the SHOEGAZER thread Loveless is actually not THAT overproduced anyway. It just took ages because the drummer got ill and one of the others had personal problems. And for all you haters, here it is backwards. Bliss.

I was comparing production techniques, and for me it's just an excuse for me to drop a Steve Albini tune in anywhere, as I mentioned. Apologies for a moment of self-indugence, you are totally correct. PS I much prefer "Isn't Anything" as well. MBV's very early stuff is interesting too.

Sorry, I get a bit overly defensive of anything Shields has done. That Shellac album is bloody ace. I used to think Albini was invincible as an engineer until I heard his version of In On The Killtaker by Fugazi. It just sounded lifeless. Glad they shelved it and did it again.

From the title of this post, I was expecting to see an eclectic pair of sling backs with a patent leather finish for sale.
I think I have a bit of a problem…..

i loved Ride. Great band. Their early 90s 12 inch singles were immense.
