Ryan isn't an England centre half. End of.
He's better than that.

"he's very lucky to get away with that ........ it was so obvious he was keeping hold of him"
Gary Neville commentating on Jones holding back an Arsenal player
Still prefer a win for Man Utd

Mixed feelings for me, Ryan deffo deserves his chance due to how well he has been playing plus its every footballers dream to represent your country, but............
If ever he does get the chance he will be playing alongside some of the biggest overhyped freaks in modern football that will do his confidence no good at all if he is treated like the last time he was called up, plus all the big boys will come knocking if he shines as we suspect he will

Tin hat time, but for as shite as Jones is, you can't fault his commitment there to stop Arsenal scoring.
If it was a Stoke player doing it we would be seriously in meltdown about how they would die for the cause etc.

I saw a comment earlier stating it is the most Phil Jones thing Phil Jones has ever done. I think that sums it up.

If you imagine that he's falling over and not actually trying to clear the ball, it's so much better.

I saw Jones literally crawling along the ground, having fell over at a critical moment - actually trying to head the ball away what an embarressing donkey I had been re-thinking my stance on Ryan playing for England - thinking maybe it could actually be good for Stoke City then, I saw that sorry looking puddin yesterday and thought - best if Ryan stays clear of a mob that selects such 'total knobends' in front of him

In the end he's prevented the goal, but let's forget that!

That's great recovery defending.
If that was Ryan we'd be shouting from the roof tops.

It is good defending but it's also hilarious.

Thought it was a great piece of defending.
I don't rate him and believe Ryan is far superior but Jones did well to prevent Giroud getting the ball.

I'm a big fan of Ryan, but I don't think he has been at his best after the injury (not the last knee tweak)! Before that and also in the game against Spurs he played well, but I really thought he had some dubious moments against Burnley. To me he wouldn't be in this England squad, but at his best he really is NO 2 or 3 in my opinion.

Crikey, good job there wasn't an Oatcake when Alan Hudson was left out of the England squad after running rings around World champions Germany and Greece. Would have been meltdown.
That was proper injustice.
At least Ryan made a mess of his debut, Hudson was outstanding in both his games for England.
Village idiots are nothing new.

At least Ryan made a mess of his debut Was it a fair debut on which to judge him really though? Came on to mark Zlatan, who was already running riot at the time. Didn't give him a start against one of the dozens of absolutely shite teams we have played around that time. Harsh to say he made a mess of it to be fair

Geoff321 - so, (with all due respect) assuming your earlier remark is some attempt at slightly barbed criticsm of my point of view it follows that you would agree to swap Phil Jones For Ryan ? seeing as - even crawling on all fours like a retarded slug (having fallen over further up the pitch like a clumsy oaf he can still defend ? (the mans a joke - even United fans admits as much to me)

My remark was not directed specifically at you toney, just saying it prevented a possible goal and it was brave because he could have easily taken a kick to the head.
Jones is a different player compared to Shawcross in the sense he can play several different positions and that's one of the main reasons he gets picked ahead of Ryan in my opinion, you probably don't require three orthodox centre halves in an England squad.
